The Supra was a fantastic car. The sad thing is some folks might have actually believed everything else you just said, until they noticed it was you saying it.

Sorry Mr. Taylor I gotta disagree on a few points. Sure a car can put out 1300 hp but SOMETHING, SOMEWHERE will break. And I am know that there is quite a bit done to the car (aftermarket parts wise) to bring it to that power level. Also having 1000 hp means nothing if you can't put it down to the ground. While the 1/4 mile is only one measure of performance it is one that huge hp Supras don't do well at because they have a hard time putting the power down. I am sure this could be fixed w/ a proper AWD system but then the car wouldn't really be a Supra, would it?

As for the Supra being a bargain, sure it was but not the last generation (MKIV) when they were selling for $50k. The problem w/ the Supra was that it became priced beyond what the market could support. Once that happens sorry game over. That is one of the reasons the Corvette has been such a success over the years, Chevy keeps pricing in line to make it a great bargain (also that is what Nissan has done with the new GT-R).

You may also want to look into recent reliability numbers both BMW and Porche have really increased their reliability recently.

It was hardly a bargain. Overhere it was about as expensive as cars like the BMW M5, Audi RS2 and even almost as expensive as a Porsche 993 Carrera.

Some of the Supras were great looking cars but you'd have to hate Germans to say that any of the Supras were better looking than most Porsches and BMW's.

Performance point of view: Yes!
Styling point of view: NO WAY

Toyota has no clue of how to encounter the GT-R yet!
by releasing the GT-R, Nissan provides an affordable supercar with reasonable cost which i doubt that Toyota can.

A Supra competitor is the Z car(Fairlady, 350), NOT a GT-R. The only thing close from Toyota right now is the LF-A (if it ever comes out).

If it has a v12 in it, it will be going against supercars (ferrari, audi, merc, lambo) Not the 30k Z.

The last interation of the Z has been toned down in price since it went in market versus the supra in the 90s. The supra will either be competing against porsche bmw and the other 45k+, or in the 25-30k bracket where the Z has made its new home.

Sorry but if you know any thing you would know that when te MKIV supra RZ came out (1993). That it was a direct competitor of the skyline GT-R R32.

And to the last day it was made (2002) it was the same class as the R32/33 and 34 GT-R's.

Nevermind. I got curious and searched myself. You are 100% right, but I'm not completely wrong.
I live in the U.S., a market that up until sometime [later] this year, has never officially sold a factory Skyline GT-R. Motorex is (or was, if they never reopened after the owner's arrest in '06) the only importer of R32-R34 Skylines. So from a factory produced effort sold in U.S. dealerships, we only had Nissan's Z cars to compete with Toyota's Supra. As a result, any MKIV "RZ" here would more than likely be an aftermarket set up (which also explains why I always had a smile on my face when I used to see them on the road in the SF Bay Area). Thanks for the clarification, though.
BTW, even though I love the MKIV, I've always had a thing for the MKII.

what intrigues me, is that toyota will FINALLY be using their v12 from the Century in a way to challenge the german (and even italian?) v12s.

one would've thought they'd do this in a lexus. maybe the intent is to show the TOYOTA brand is fully competitive with ALL comers across the planet. (they were in asia and japan before Lexus started being marketed there.)
