Toyota profits dropping 20%

You know the economy is experiencing hard times when even industry leader Toyota announces a major profit warning.

Toyota is expected to suffer its first drop in operating profit in more than nine years, due mostly to falling U.S. sales and a stronger yen, and most analysts are predicting profits will fall by 20% on last year’s levels to about ¥1.8 trillion ($18 billion).

That's about 19 billion more than Ford, GM, and Chrysler (at least). Still pretty good I think.

Toyota profits are dropping because their cars are ugly.

profit drops because U.S. dollar depreciate so much. it has nothing to do with Toyota sell less cars or whatsoever.

Did you look at the percentage of drop on the yen to all the other world currencies ? The yen has not dropped a miniscule amount compared to the other currencies . They don't want to lose any sales over here .

the Yen remaining strong vs the dollar WOULD lower their profits. if prices in dollars were not raised.

in effect, that means american buyers are getting better bargains than we 'deserve.'

Their profits are down because they over-did the cost-cutting to a noticable detriment in quality.
They will put a bit of that fabled quality back into the cars, taking a small hit in profits, and watch sales rise again.
In no way is Toyota going to die ... they are just tweaking the overall process.

Never underestimate the business skills of Toyota!
Ugly cars or not, they are #1 for a reason.

watch toyota sales GROW in russia, china, and india, the NEW growing economies whose currencies are RISING while the dollar plummets.

when sales gain traction there, toyota profits will once again virtually EXPLODE!
