Spy Shot: Audi Q5 Caught In Germany!
Several magazines, including ourselves were given a drop kick to the head by Audi as we previously reported the A5 debut at Los Angeles last year.

Then the mid-size BMW X3, Land Rover Freelander and Mercedes GLK competitor was reported to debut at Geneva last month, but much to our disappointment, it was held back by Audi in favor of the Q7 V12 TDI. Then, it was reported last month that the elusive Q5 would finally make its global introduction in Beijing.

It looks just like an A5 combined with a Q7. That is a very good thing!

Meh.

Kinda reminds me of a Suburu. Rear is an X3/RDX.

Needs work.

It's obvious that the body is in preproduction form. I'm sure it will turn out nice. With kinship to the S5 and R8, the designers will come through.

The RX is too big to compete in this class.

The X3 is outdated and has some terrible transmission issues. I have a friend with one, and frequently the car just won't move when he presses the pedal due to gear-hunting.

The MDX??? Huh? I think you're confused about this car's class. The MDX competes with the Q7. The Q5 will be in between the sizes of the MDX and RDX.

The Infiniti EX? How could you mention that and the MDX in the same breath? It's smaller than the RDX! The rear seat is smaller than the G37 coupe! It's as low to the ground as my A3! Hardly an SUV.

GLK, I'll give you. Also Volvo XC60.

I agree with S4cabriofoxone, you're off a little on your comparisons. That's okay though I get what you're saying. The one thing audi does have an edge with is the fact that it will be one of the first in this wave of new small luxury SUV's. I'm really excited to see the production pics because if it's good enough this could be just what Audi is looking for to bring it even closer to fully competing with BMW and Mercedes in the US.

P.S. Infiniti EX is possibly the worst crossover to ever hit the market, it's sooo friggin tiny!

They temporarily junked up the back-end ... that's why it looks Japanese for now.
At least it doesn't suffer from an over-dose of Botox in the fenders and sills, like the BMWs.
Put the V6 TDI in this, and you've got a great all-around vehicle with room, Audi handling, and 40 MPG on the highway!

knowing Audi, i can already imagine what it will look like. I hope it doesn't look like fat Q7 (especially rear 3/4ths and that ugly tailgate).

Because, you know, the Lexus GX and LX lead the class for gorgeous, stunning, athletic design.
