New 1500HP supercar to dethrone Bugatti Veyron

Having more horsepower and being faster doesn't mean it can dethrone the Veyron.

What makes the Veyron the ultimate supercar is how well it makes it prodigious performance accessible to the common man without sacrificing other important things like luxury, build quality, usability, and attention to detail.

It's not difficult to generate 1500hp out of an engine. Every day, men in sheds coax that and more out of cheap V8's for their amateur drag racecars. What is difficult is designing an engine, transmission, and AWD drivetrain combo that can cope with 1000+hp and 920+ ft/lbs of torque. Not for 8 sec of 1/4 mile, or even for a couple hours of racing, but instead one that must put up with the rigors of street driving, and the occasional full power launch/pull for 20 or 30 years.

On top of this, the power must be accessible. Engineering a vehicle to the point where any person with a license can get behind the wheel and pull 407kph without breaking a sweat is nothing short of incredible. Bugatti is the one and only manufacturer to ever do something like this as proven dozens of times by various automotive journalists and writers.

All of the other so-called "competition" to dethrone the Veyron falls ridiculously, foolishly, short because they target only one specific strength of the Veyron, and claim to have "beat it". One could strap rockets onto a Chevette and it will "beat" a Veyron, but will it dethrone it as the greatest Supercar yet? No.

The reason is simple, other top tier cars offer Performance, or Usability, or Luxury to an extreme level. But up until the Veyron they have all been more or less mutually exclusive. You want the ultimate in Performance? (Enzo? CGT? you can't have luxury then) You want the ultimate in attention to detail and interior appointments? (Rolls? Bentley? Maybach?) You sacrifice performance.

Only the Veyron does all of these things well. It combines, the ultimate in Performance with the ultimate in luxury on a level that has never before been achieved by any other manufacturer. It will outrun any other production car, yet you don't need to be a professional race driver to experience the full force of its potential. On a track you can easily keep up pace with much more track focused vehicles (Z06,Porsche 996tt,etc) yet you don't have to sacrifice comfort or interior to do so.

The Veyron is the absolute pinnacle of modern automotive engineering. It represents the best of everything that we as engineers have, given the current state of technology. Competitors with more power, or higher top speed will come and go, but until another factory production vehicle with warranty comes along that can do everything the Veyron does, ALL at a higher level, there will be no de-throning of any kind.

Ah my apologies, my wording was poor. What was meant by that statement was that the Veyron makes its performance accessible to the common driver.

In other words you don't need professional race driver skills to control it like you would with a lightweight 1000-1500hp RWD car.

I like a reasonable amount of power but this is getting ridiculous.

Shelby Ultimate Aero beat out the Veyron in top speed about 4 months ago...

The Bugatti is the ultimate car because it can take you on long trips on hyperspeed. The other cars do none of those things. If you want to beat the Veyron, you have to do all the things that the Veyron does better.

AND you're not terrified out of your mind at hyperspeeds. Which is why it cost several BILLION dollars to develop. You just can't match it unless you have several billion dollars. IMO.

No one on this site is capable of driving 200 mph.

I used to land small planes on little known abandoned runways with grass growing thru the tarmac. Every time I did that, my first thought was how much fun it would be to accelerate a supercar to 200 mph on the ground. All it takes is a fit vehicle with 200 mph tires.

Look at all the cars that go 400+ they are made to be as flat as possible except for the Veyron. This car weighs 2 tonnes which is alot more heavier then any of its competition but it handles the speed and handling so well. The only time i think we're gonna see something that can beat the Veyron overall is another Bugatti.

I think the first maker which will produce actual competition to the Bugatti will be Pagani. Their engineering prowess and attention to detail are similarly impressive.

The F1 had its own set of flaws not the least of which was that it allowed Gordon Murphy to be a prick for the rest of his life and get away with it... To be honest, I dont think a car with no ABS, no power steering, no power brakes, hard to get into and frisky (if not deadly so) is any competition to the Bugatti. Someone above said the Bugatti is an out of this world performance package that an everyday man, that is to say an every day billionaire, can access easily. And even Gordon complimented on its execution thereof after all said and done.
