300 horsepower VW Scirocco to take part in 24-hour ‘Ring race

We haven’t heard much about the Volkswagen Scirocco ever since its debut at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. Right before its market launch, two-time Le Mans winner Hans-Joachim Stuck and two-time World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz, will help get Volkswagen get word out of the Scirocco in the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring held on May 24 and 25.

Oh and it won’t be any base Sciroccos that the two will be racing in. Volkswagen has produced three factory-developed racing versions of the Scirocco. The racing versions are based on the Golf GTI that was victorious in 2007 24-hour race at the Nurburgring.

umm.. the only golf mkv that finished in the top 10 in 2007 finished 8th overall.

i guess no one remembers 5th place finishers, let alone 8th place.

The GTI came in 8th, i think with that they meant winner of it's class. Seeing as it's the fastest car thats not based on a super/sports car.
