Acura Sets Record March Sales
TSX Posts Another Record Setting Month

Marking its 17th consecutive record-breaking month, Acura posted record March sales of 18,599 vehicles, surpassing the previous mark of 17,285 set in 2004 by 3.6 percent, the division announced today. Year-to-date, Acura sales rose to 48,414, up 7.7 percent compared to 2004, based on the daily selling rate.

TSX, TL and RL sedans helped set a new monthly record of 13,586 for total cars, breaking the previous record of 12,703 set in 1991. The TSX sports sedan set a new March sales record and posted its fourth consecutive record month of sales, up 35.6 percent compared to 2004. TSX sales of 3,107 units shattered the previous record of 2,206 vehicles set in 2004. The TL performance luxury sedan was Acura's top-selling model with March sales of 7,217 driving the year-to-date total to 17,904. Additionally, strong demand for the all-new RL luxury performance sedan continued with sales of 1,376 up 193.8 percent compared to 2004. Year-to-date RL sales of 4,159 outpaced last year's total of 1,428 by 195.1 percent.

"Our strong sedan lineup continues to win over customers despite the tough competition," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, sales. "The TL, RL and TSX are three of the hottest luxury cars in the country and continue to push Acura to record sales."

You can knock the Acura TSX and still acknowledge that its sales are impressive. It sales create welcomed traffic for the Acura dealerships.

The success of the Acura TL and TSX, as well as the Infiniti G35 is not a surprise. Many folks have predicted for yeats there would be a boom in the "near-luxury" market. That's why we also see good sales for the Lexus ES, Merc C Class and especially the BMW 3 series.

To me the big surprise is that Ford and GM have failed to take advantage of this - afterall they have spent billions of dollars to buy brands such as Volvo, Saab, Jaguar. Yet where are the Volvo, Saab, Jaguar break-out hits?

Ford and GM also spend billions of dollars developing European oriented models which are branded as Ford and Opel.

If Acura can import the European Honda Accord and sell it as a "premium" product how come GM and Ford can't import the best European Ford and Opel products successfully - I guess the Merkur experience put Ford off, and GM is too busy wasting an alleged $250million in order to try and sell CadiSaabs into Europe.

Everyone can eat at the trough, but Ford and GM are making extremely costly mistakes, losing share in the "near luxury" segment and failing to satisfy enough customers. Blame the Executives at Ford and GM for having inadequate breadth in their new product pipelines.

I really considered a TSX. However, the Dr is on fire. He knows what hes talking about. Those are the primary reasons I didnt but the car. The engine, the seats, the doors and the suspension. Acura could of dropped a bomb on the market. But it didnt. I now have a 330i ZHP. No, I'm not a BMW-crazy type of person. I love cars. Period. And no sedan makes me feel the way the 330 does. I have owned bigger and more expensive cars. None of them compare. The TSX was one car I really liked, but didnt measure up. Same as G35. That whole car feels like a plastic piece of crap. Liked for 10 minutes, then couldnt stand it. I am sure the new Lexus IS will be the same. I have had 3 Audis, 2 Mercs and a Lexus. I always hated BMW. Until I drove one. Then owned one. Now, I am convinced they are the best. Excellent reliability and AMAZING performance. On my third Beemer and all have been stellar in every area. Dont be afraid to buy the best. Trust me, you wont regret it.
