New BMW Z4 spy video

BMW’s next-generation Z4 roadster is due to arrive next year as a 2010 model, and contrary to numerous reports the new model will grow in both size and price.

As revealed in this latest spy video from the Nurburging, the new car will sport a similar shape to the current Z4 but will feature a new folding hardtop in lieu of the current fabric roof.

For BMW, the benefits of the folding hardtop (security and reliability) outweighed the disadvantages of increased weight and less trunk space.

I wouldnt go that far. The Z4 hasnt always been the best performer in the segment. Porsche is. Ive driven the current Z4 and let me tell you, I was dissappointed and shocked at how poor the handling was compared to the SLK.

Hopefully the new model addresses the issues of the current one including body roll, cheap interior, and weak engines.

Ive driven both. The R171 SLK is a better handling vehicle not by far but still better. One of my best friends has an 07 Z4 and he told me the same thing.

No way BMW limits the horsepower on the M version to 350. It will have whatever the M3 has at the time of release. Two very different markets of buyers.

Won't say too much about the styling with all the camo, but i'm really liking what I see so far. Love that they made it longer and it reminds me of the Mercedes SL (and SLK) in that respect and the hardtop too. And if the M3's V8 finds its way into the car I think BMW has a real winner.

not much can really be made out in this vid. And how do we know it is a rag top? couldn't they disquise a ragtop like the rest of the car is camo-ed?

Neither the SLK nor the Z4 is inherently better than the other, but both cars are noteworthy for having had extraordinarily dramatic overhauls in recent years. If there is a main difference between the models now, it is that the SLK is a car on the rise, while the Z4 is a car on the slide
