Audi Sales Dip 4.6% For April

Audi of America, Inc. announced today sales for the month of April totaling 7,730, a decrease of 4.6% from last year’s record figures. Audi Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales continued their record-setting trend; compared with last year’s April figures, CPO sales rose to 3,175 units, an increase of 56.4%.

“Nearly 11,000 consumers chose to buy an Audi in April,” said Johan de Nysschen, executive vice president, Audi of America. “Combined new vehicle and pre-owned sales point to a powerful endorsement of our brand in a tough market.”

Luxury car buyers considered the tightening economy and rising gas prices as they shopped, choosing the style and fuel economy offered by Audi’s suite of sedans and CPO vehicles. Nationwide, sales of the A4 grew 9.7% over last year, sales of the A6 jumped by 33.7%, and the new TT drew a 12.1% uptick. Certain areas reported even stronger figures; Los Angeles area dealers reported a 6.2% rise in total sales, boosted by a 35% increase in sales of the A6.  Dealers in several big markets, including Atlanta, Chicago and New York, also recorded year-over-year gains.

To date, Audi has sold 28,286 vehicles in 2008, a 2.9% decrease over the previous year; CPO sales for 2008 total 12,084, an increase of 46.4% over 2007.

Thank GOD the A6 is selling.

The only question is... why? Are they suddenly offering some great lease deal?

I'm surprised A3 is down that much. Seems like the trend is already toward smaller, more fuel-efficient cars. I know it's only one month. Maybe because people know there's a refresh afoot for '09? But it's not like a major redesign or something, so....

well inventory on the A3 is fairly low, so choices and options are too, you can't sell what you don't have...

Good point. I'm considering ordering an '09 for that reason, but I'm also looking at a few other cars.

yea low inventory for 20 years, Audi is a loser brand they will still not sell over 100,000 cars in the US, and they have been in the US for since 1965, year after year you Audi fans give your monthly excuses, stop with the bullshit rebadged VW fans.

I guess BMW has to introduce a 314i after they just introduced the 316i to keep up with A4 sales in Europe. The base A4 is a 1.8 turbo btw.

good thing that the only reason why BMW has seen sales increase in the past few months has been because of MINI. Lets see how many cars BMW sells without them...i think we'd be sing a large dip in sales, just like we did this month :) kthx

i like bmw, but i dont like people like you :)

Audi is the joke a car company that sells a rebadged gallardo and a rebadged golf, it will be year 2115 before you catch up to BMW.

Larry. Larry, Larry!!!

Are you for real? Go to the forum where it says that Lexus went down 17% and stay there to defend you so cherished Toyotas.
Now let me explain to you the definition of "rebadge":

1- A vehicle very similar in appearance but with a different badge, and/ or tidbits(tail lights and such)
A good example would be Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country
Or the Lexus ES and the Camry (same windows, windshield, engines, suspension, same roof...)

2- A vehicle sold in one country as a certain brand and in another(s) country(ies)
A example would be the Infiniti G35 and Nissan Skyline, or the Lexus RX and the Toyota Harrier.

Now, pay attention, a platform sharing does not involve rebadging if none of the body panels are similar, including glass panels.
A good example would be the M-B SLK and the Crossfire, or the Golf and the A3.
Or the Rolls-Royce using a BMW engine, and I don't see nothing wrong with that, do you?

If you find me a Audi sold anywhere in the world as VW, where just the badge have been swapped, I will humbly apologize to you.

Cheers

Your ignorance is bliss dear amazinbimmer.
A BMW was a fantastic product before the Bangle era. Now this is just a farce, the quality went down, the cars are built by the accountant, they only thing they kept(salvaged) are the driving dynamics.
Let me remind you that despite what you say, Audi has been outselling BMW in Europe for at least the past 6 years, and in Europe BMW sells plenty of cheap version of their cars too.
And I assume you did not understand or read the "rebadge" explanation that I wrote for Larry.
You state that Audi looses shares in the US, ok, may I remind you that even if that was to be true, Audi posted a increase of 28% in operating profit, while BMW was posting a write off of $300 million because of the US market. So tell me, which one of the Company is doing better? Because no matter how much of a childish fanboy you are, for those companies the name of the game is to MAKE MONEY.
And BMW does not care about you, they care about the money they make, period.

I haven't seen BMW financials for the first quarter, but Audi and VW made about 1 billion Euro in the first quarter of 08.

Audi is internally focusing on CPO sales and this is evidence it's working. Still, resale values suck ass.
