Chrysler offers fuel for $2.99 per gallon

In its latest ‘Let’s Refuel America’ campaign Chrysler LLC will be offering customers of its Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands fuel at a price of just $2.99 per gallon over the next three years to help spur sales.

As fuel prices continue to head skywards, consumers in the U.S. have been shifting away from heavy SUVs and pickups in droves.

Last month saw passenger cars overtake pickups and SUV in the sales race for the first time in decades.

That's as laughable as campaign promises by presidential candidates re temporary federal gas tax relief. Chrysler is jumping on the bandwagon and complicating the vehicle acquisition process instead of simply offering cash incentives.

Oil prices won't go down ever again. Oil companies have discovered that they can charge $3.00+ for oil so they're not going to lower that price. The only hope we have is a strong dollar.

lexusis350, never say never -- oil could become very obsolete sooner than you think. processes are under developmnet that use a genetically engineered fungus to produce ethanol from waste products in a cheap and carbon-neutral manner. Other processes under development use cyanobacteria to secrete glucose and sucrose which, in turn, can be used to produce ethanol.

About 2,250 dollars over 3 years if you count 15,000 miles, 20 mpg and 4 dollar gas. Up to 4,000 for the pickups.

How will Chrysler make sure that you don't just pass around the card to your friends/start making a discount gas business? I assume there are limits.

There's a total limit too of 700 gallons. So you could say that worst case is $6 gas...$3 * 700 = $2100. Not that big of a deal...not enough for me to want to drive a Chrysler anyway.

This is not a good deal with the 700 gallon limit......For instances, if you fill-up twice a week in a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry at 17.5 Gallons, that comes out to 35 gallons per week.

So, therefore you will reach the 700 Gallon mark in only 20 weeks which comes to 5 months not 3 years!

I've tried to validate what I saw on the local news last night...which showed the 700 gallon limit for the whole deal. But I haven't found another source that shows anything. Could've been wrong.
