Spied: 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Under the camo is Chevy's all new Cobalt sedan, scheduled to debut as a 2010 model. Codenamed GMX071, the next-gen Cobalt will begin production at GM's Lordstown plant in July or August of next year. A coupe version will also be available.

These pix reveal a contemporary new design direction for the Cobalt. The now-familiar two-tier Chevy grille dominates the front end, and the bodyside is delineated by a sharp boneline rising to the rear below a twisting concave surface that hints of current BMW 5-series. The trunk is well hidden, but the logical extension of the bodyside treatment suggests a raised central section and mild shoulders over rear wheel openings.

This spy photo shows a lot more although this was taken in Korea, where the same model will be sold a s the Daewoo Nurbia, so minor trim changes are likely.

Why do we continue to use plastic for the interior?
Can't they use a more environmentally friendly material like real wood, for the dashboard.

Wood is a renewable resource.

Plastic comes from Petroleum.

Wood is expensive and deteriorates with time. Also I wouldn't necessarily call wood 'environmentally friendly'. After all it takes decades to grow a tree large enough to get usable lumber out of it.

Its just a refreshening for the most part. An all-new from the ground up model isn't due for another 5 years or so.

Bad Accident last night. A Pontiac Grand Am rear ended a Cobalt. The Cobalt was twisted wreckage. There was debris and glass everywhere. I really hope the people made it, but it’s not likely by the looks of the wreckage.

Another true story, friend of mine had a Cobalt. She was also rear ended by a truck. The Truck was only going about 40mph. The Headlight and grille of the truck was embedded in the back of the driver’s seat. The back seat area was non-existent and un-recognizable. It makes you think twice about driving one of these.

She suffered ruptured discs as a result of the accident. Where is General Motors now? They didn’t build the car strong enough to protect her. Too many plastic parts and nylon fasteners.

These small cars are just too dangerous with the road rage we have today.
