BMW X6: SOLD OUT !!!

BMW X6: SOLD OUT !!!
BMW AG chief executive officer, Mr. Norbert Reithofer, announced today that the BMW X6 had been already sold out for this year. According to him, BMW plans to produce 40,000 units in average worldwide in a full production year during the product's lifecycle. Half of the worldwide production quota will be reserved for U.S sales.

Surprising that the X6 is sold out? Well, not really, most of the U.S dealerships sold their cars within the first week and there is a waiting list already. Wait until the X6 xDrive50 hits the showrooms….Do you remember the article I have posted about BMW X6 vs Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover ? It was based on an internal BMW document which compared the above cars head-to-head. The article made waves all over the web and it has been bashed by many people. Like here

No one really believed that the X6 will be such an outstanding car. I remember talking to a BMW employee that had the opportunity to test the car back in January and his exact words were: "Everyone will be blown away by the performance and handling of this new model, there is simply no other car in its class that will match up".

If you haven't had the chance to drive one, call your local dealers and maybe you'll find one that you can drive.

When they refer to sold out, they are talking about from the factory to dealers, not to the end user.

our dealer in Chicago is sold out til Mid to late July. We have one for a test drive. IN regards to the V8, we have 10 orders already for the X6. Basically, the V8 version is already on a 3 to 4 month wait. Also, there are only going to be 8k produced the first year for the US

Vendetta, notice how most of those 397 cars you are seeing are exactly the same? That's because they're the demos BMW gave each dealer. Everyone got one or two, and they're not going to sell them when there aren't any available inbound ones to replace them with.

ohh ok. so how about posting this again when the X6 is sold out from dealers to the actual buyers?

Two points:

1. This article was a submission, it was not posted directly by any of the AutoSpies.com agents

2. Almost ALL sales numbers regarding cars are from the Mfg. to the dealer, not from the dealer to the consumer. When you read that Toyota sold 400,000 Camry's, you are hearing exactly what Toyota sold, remember dealers are not owned by the Mfg., legally they cannot own dealerships, so as such sales figures are figured this way.

Good for BMW and (especially) good for all the hard-working employees at BMW's plant in South Carolina. They must all be very proud of their success.

001/009 - if you are looking for story ideas, one angle of adulation that you have not yet explored is covering BMW's great SC plant. Perhaps many of your readers from the middle east and Europe don't realize the great facility that exists here in the USA. Outside of Germany, its probably one of the best auto plants in the world.

I'm sure BMW would feed and entertain you well down there during your visit :-)

the ultimate badge whore is a lexus ES or LX buyer because it's literally a toyota with nothing more than a badge change.

Last BMW we leased was a 2001 325ci coupe broke down three times and that's BMW quality there. Oh yeah, it took BMW 3 years to admit there is a ignition coil problem. You can stick with your BMW while waiting for a tow truck but I'm happily drving my luxury toyota and nissan.

I just checked the nearest dealer inventory and I'm sure I can find one out of the many sitting in the lots right now.

Normally I'd say congrats and give credit where credit is due, but this is pretty humorous.

Yea it is pricey but it's a nice vehicle. I am hoping the larger engine version will come standard with most to the normally optional equipment as reported as a possibility in a previous post. That would make the high price tag a lil more justifiable on that version.

bulldogz, a quick check of BMW's national inventory shows there is one dealer with five X6's in stock, a handful with four, and everyone else with nothing but the one or two demos BMW gave everyone. So either the dealer lied when they told you they had 9, you misheard them, or you're exaggerating to prove a point that isn't accurate. Which one is it?

@JRobUSC, I agree. We usually don't respond to comments, but we had someone run a check on the inventory, and we have seen the same thing. Like we mentioned in our article, most of the dealers are sold out, based on the market they are in, but there are still a few that might have a limited inventory.

I said before and I'll say it again, if the vehicle drives great, it starts looking a hell of a lot better. Give the Aztec the dynamics of a Bimmer and I guarantee it sells better.
Oh, wait ... no one could get past that thing's looks.
But the power of the BMW brand is such that they can put out a controversial design like this and sit back and watch the things sell like hotcakes because of its handling and responsiveness.

Saw a dark red X6 on the street the other day and I got to say that it is not as appealing as it apperas in the pics (actually to me it looks worse in real life than in pics, the total opposite of today's "radical" car designs). I would refer it to a "Next generation" Aztek than to anything else.

But, I'm not surprised its sold out. No matter how unappealing or different a BMW design may be, Badge fanatics would still buy it just because its a BMW. ***Note, I'm ONLY referring strictly to the X6's design, not engine or performance or drive.***

I went to the BMW dealership yesterday to have my 06 3 series serviced, & had a chance to sit in a new x6. I sat in the rear seat-just curious to see if was able to accommodate someone tall (I'm 6'1''), and the headliner was barely touching my hair. My overall 1st impression---very aggressive stance. One thing that surprised me was how tall the back is...the top of the trunk hit the middle of my chest! Overall, it looks great in person!
