Which Is The MOTHER Of Under $50k Premium Coupes?
Sorry 00J.

I'm tired about talking about gas prices so I'm bouncing your top story today in favor of MOTHER'S.

First of all, Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers who take/took such good care of us and give us unconditional love, even when we don't deserve it.

And speaking of mother's...Let us know which coupe is the MOTHER of all under $50K premium coupes.

Is it the Infiniti G37 or is it the BMW 335i?

Voice your opinion below but be nice, because today, MOM is watching!

No wonder you're flattered by the BMW, it pretty much looks like the last gen Accord coupe! G37 not only has more road presence, the exhaust note can sell this car all on its own! Performance wise you're splitting hairs but pricewise, we know who wins that contest. Leatherette anyone?

G37 certainly turns your head and conveys the image of premium sports coupe. However I'll vote for 335 for the Mother of it. With $10,000 more, you got to be able to do it.

They both look pretty identical to one another. Did the Infiniti copy the BMW or? To me, the G37 looks suspiciously similar to the styling of the Lexus SC 430 coupe, too. Kind of like a mix between an SC 430 and 335i. Also, do I see a Scion TC influence in the G37 design? Both cars are really nice and I would be happy to have either one. :-)

I have now owned both a BMW and now the Infiniti. They are both great drivers cars, I think we can all agree on that. I wanted to buy a 335Ci coupe in the worst way but I could not get past the interior design. I'm sorry but that dashboard looks like it was pulled directly out of a 1985 Ford LTD! Also the flimsy cup holders would send any beverage flying when taking a tight twisty. Throw in a hard to use GPS / I Drive system and the fact my last BMW had to be serviced 5 times during a 2 year lease and you have my Answer. I'll give you the MPG, I priced both the BMW and G37 for insurance with 3 places beofre I bought two were about the same one was lower for the 37. As for maintance, these cars are pretty much maintance free except for oil changes and wiper blades. In my case over a two year lease thats maybe 200.00 - Free maintance is almost required on the bimmer as it does not even have a dip stick. Also BMW only gives you one oil change a year (How would you like to buy one of those cars just off say a 3 year lease with just 3 oil changes over 45,000 miles - yikes!)

335i , is a better performer and it is the mother of coupes under that price range, why? because with 30 less horsepower than the infiniti it still kicked the infiniti's ass on the track. Its a looking coupe too. I just wish that the Audi A5 or S5 had more power for their price. I also dont understand why audi isnt in this comparison. I love bimmers but I also respect audi, because of their exterior design and interior design and quality. As for people talking about reliability, I just have to laugh because if you have to price to buy it, you can probably pay for its maintenance.

Mostly subjective her but I'll take a stab:

Price: Infiniti hands down here.

Straight Line Performance: the N54 is flat out amazing and even though the G37 has better topend power, i'm a low end torque type of guy. BMW FTW

Handling: A wash unless you believe in the "magic feel" of the BMW.

Looks: I prefer the look of the Infiniti. The BMW is not ugly, but the exterior of the Infiniti looks more "Premium" to me.

Fuel ecomony: The BMW has better economy but we are not talking 4cyl hybrids here. I would not buy a sports coupe for economy, so to me that's a wash.

For my money, I would pick the G37

Stone....

This is almost too easy!

BMW for all practical purposes invented the (relatively) affordable sports sedan. The 335i,the latest iteration, is still the King of the small sports sedan hill. (Er, excuse me, I meant Queen - this is Mother's Day after all!)

The Infiniti G37, while a very able contender, is still not the equal of the BMW 335i. It is cheaper, however.

an arguable point. nissan had the Datsun 510 way back in the late 1960s/early '70s. they even came with irs. many were used in club racing.

granted, there's a lot of water under the bridge since, and nissan sorta dropped the ball on sports sedans since. for export markets anyway.

the 335i is the best, it has the quality, refinement, performance, and styling....the G37 doesnt have the refinement of the other cars in its class which really refinement really is important in a LUXURY performance class car, the interior quality, or distinctive styling(not that it doesnt look good, it just looks like an altima coupe), it is cheaper but its interior and lack of refinement show where they cut cost.......

I personally think the car is sexy. Some may say there is no street presence, but there is tons of parking lot presence. For the first month I drove the car to work, people from all levels of management (entry level to directors) would come by my office to ask about the car. I did not expect such a response since there are much faster and more expensive cars in the company. At times I'd walk out to my car to find a group of guys standing around my car. The seats are to die for and nice driver oriented touches like the instrument binnicle moving with the power tilt / telescoping steering wheel. BMW's is a lever way under the dash someplace. Also the manual BMW I drove had a shifter that while nice - was not as buttery as the G37. I loved the older BMW's my E46 had the dash that tilted towards the driver - that was cool - now its an ugly straight dash plain cheap looking and rather ugly. My wife thought the BMW coupe exterior looked "girlish" - once she said that I was done with that choice! By the way she is now driving a 2008 328 coupe with no extras because she could not work the I Drive. I also love the music box hard drive in my G37 again not avialable on the BMW. The BMW's interior is "not cheap"... It is made consists of much higher quality materials than can be found in any infiniti, lexus, or acura. These materials are just not "blinged out" which to me makes the G37's interior look cheap.

I have driven them both and own the 335i coupe. The leather seats of the BMW will age and hold up much better with time.. Same goes for the dash, buttons and all other interior materials on the BMW and for that matter all BMW's..

Just because something looks more expensive does not mean it is higher quality. I would love to see a G37 and a 335i with the same number of miles and usage 5 years from now and then let's compare the interiors. I bet you anything the 335i will look much better than the G37.

I like things about both of them. I like how the BMW has everything you could look for in a sport sedan. I also like the looks of it. It's a great car. But for the G37, I really like how Infiniti emphasizes their Japanese heritage instead of disguise it and make it seem like they're European. Take Lexus for example. They're good cars, but it seems like they're ashamed to say they're Japanese so they make their cars with European ideas. Infiniti builds a true Japanese car.

Audi A5 was around $50K. Seems like a lot of car for the money.
I like BMW, but you have to spend a lot to get a lot.

The falling American Dollar will push likely Import car prices higher though. With people losing homes, and upside down in their current car loans, most will probably have to wait for the economy to get better.

Spent three years in Germany so of course I am biased. One thing I really like about German cars is that they are designed to be driven on the Autobahn day in and day out at very high speeds. That includes braking suddenly from very high speeds, quick reflexes when someone wanders etc... Not that we drive a lot at those types of speeds and require that type of braking and handling but it is nice to know it is there. Also some of my friends brought either their American cars or Japanese brand cars... within a year they had all sold them except one (70 Vette ... so could not blame him) but he even bought a second car and it was German. I still love competition and to each his own... make mine the 335tii.

G37 for a drivers car. i mean really, infiniti built this thing for driving. sharper handling, short throw shifter, adjustable thigh and side bolsters. muscular styling, big 19" wheels, and a throaty exhaust for the looks and sounds. the touch screen hard drive nav and the best ipod integration i have ever seen. i dont even need to mention price.

We get the Infiniti G37 with 350BHP and it's as quick as 335i(tested this month, AutoCar Middle East May Issue), so definately G37S. To me it looks better both inside and out then the 335i and it starts at USD 48K compare to 335i's USD 68K. So that's exactly 20K difference and that's a lot.

btw 335i comes a close second, equally great car but it's not 20K better than Infiniti not even 5K.

After recently seeing 'Hitman' I'm kinda hooked on the A5, but you can't go wrong with any of the 3.

1 negative point of each of one:

335: I don't like the interior design
A5: You have to spend big bucks to get power
G37: No AWD option!

Im in this delema right now. I have an 06 g35 coupe and the lease is up in about 6 months. Looking at g37 best value if you include all the options bmw doesnt even offer. looking at the 335xi awd but not 6k better then the g37 and finally looking at the s5 but no lease program so would have to pay 850 a month plus giving a 30k deposit to own the damn thing. so that gives me these choices get either bmw 335i convert or g37 but if its just coupes i guess you have to go with g37

While I had my BMW, every time I get in and start the car and push it's engine on highway, there is no other word come to my mind other then perfect. And I don't know about any of you but every time I get in a Lexus/Acura/Infiniti, I just can't go over the fact that it is just a rebadged Toyota/Honda/Nissan.

I tracked it at the autobahn country club in joliet, il. in case you were wondering where. I honestly do not know why anyone who likes driving would get the infiniti? if you just drive around town at 15mph, who cares, but if you are a 'driver', its a no brainer.

alot of you are forgetting how much larger inside the 335 is vs the G37. The G37 is tiny in comparsion. Also, the 335 is alot faster, handles better, stops better and has alot better steering and solidness to it. For the $9k you save on price, you are getting a smaller, slower, worse miles in gas, less trunk space, worse handling, and a worse drive of a car. huh?

Not even close. 335 hands down.

F1 .. I have driven both car on a track and everyday driving extensively in the same conditions. No offense, the G37 doesnt compare very well at all. You are also talking about 1 test where the G37 bested the 335, but that was mostly due to price. The 335 has bested the G37 in about 5 other articles. I could copy and paste them all , but dont have that kind of time.

gsh -- I also have a 2008 535i. At least I drive the cars and own the cars I talk about. Kills me people on here only provide opinions based solely on what they read and not actual driving experience. Go and drive a 335 coupe with a sports package and then drive a G37. Drive under same conditions and same course and you will see a hige difference between the cars. I drive aggressively and always looking for some winding road to push my cars throu. The infiniti is very unnerving when pushed cause the body roll in the car doesnt provide a very consistant feel and provides a loss of confidence. You would know that if you actually drove the cars vs just reading and providing an opinion based solely on what you read.

BMW, Motor Trend picked the G37 over the 335:

1st Place: 2008 Infiniti G37S
More muscle and technology deliver BMW brilliance on a budget.

2nd Place: 2007 BMW 335i

F1 ... one test ... G37 if you read my comment further down, is smaller, slower, and doesnt handle as well. If I want something smaller, then I would just get the 135. Why not compare the 135 to the G37? Oh wait the 135 blows the doors off the G37. Now that is not a fair comparison even though they are priced the same.

Edmunds.com .... BMW 335 1st & G37 second

"And by most standards, the Infiniti G37 is an impressive car and a lot of fun. But it isn't as quick as the BMW 335i, nor does it engage its driver with equal commitment.

Due to its higher price and shorter features list, the 3 Series won this test by only 2.3 points. But contained within those points are all the details that make it a more intimate and involving driving partner."

Motive ... The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe Article

Spending my own cash~~

1) 335i - The total package. Great HP & Torque (2008 engine of the year)! The most expensive of the bunch.

2) A5 - Simply gorgeous inside & out. The base price is similar to 335i but has less HP or torque.

3) G37 - Exterior is boring. G35 looks much better. Great HP. But needs more torque to match the 335i. Base price is less than the other two which makes it a good buy.

The only Japanese car I like is the FX50 because you can get in in Rear-wheel drive. Although the V8 only comes with gas guzzling AWD. They should let you opt for just the rear drive on the V8.

I like the use of interior wood. I see they have 21ā€ wheels, which is only 1ā€ taller than the Lincoln MKX. The FX50 is a lot more money than the Lincoln though.

But cars are a losing investment, I’m not sure it is worth paying such a premium for a crossover, especially if you drive it for work at only 25 cents per mile reimbursement. Lincon MKX is only high $30s to low $40s to purchase. At that price I could own insted of lease.

Audi A5 and S5 are very compelling models. They looked great at the Detroit show this year. They seem like they give you a lot of car for the money, rare for German brands. The S5 has the bold gauges pointing South for Zero, awesome. The 2-door makes it cumbersome for business though. I think Audi might be inching above BMW these days. The level of Luxury is outstanding. The A5 could use some of the wood from the A8L though.

Brilliant logic, which leads to my conclusion: 1 series coupe beats 6 series coupe. BTW, 1 series coupe likely beats Audi S5 coupe as well...

In terms of interior room, the 1 series coupe is even larger than the 6 series.

In terms of the rear interior room, the 1 series coupe is decisively larger than Audi S5 coupe.

In terms of the fron interior room, the 1 series coupe is comparable to the S5 coupe.

Performance wise, the 135 easily beats the 650i (4.7s vs mid 5s for 0-60mph).
