I hope not... I am a softop guy. Hardtops add a lot of weight and Im not a big fan of the look. Sometimes they have odd proportions Volvo C70 for example.

LOL the current G37 weighs about 3700 pounds. the convertable will at least add 200 pounds making the weight of the car 3900 lbs.

I hope there not going to use the same 3.7 liter V6 making 330 hrp since my opinion it lacks torque and would be making the car much slower overall.

Infiniti needs to follow what BMW did and instead of adding displacement, they should reduce the liter size and add in Twin Turbos.

Lord knows we wouldn't want the G37 convertible to weigh as much a BMW 3-Series convertible. Especially when they have nearly the same horsepower.

Why would they compete? The 335i competes with the G37 already. Any more powerful G would obviously compete with the M3.

First of all, I don't think they would put the GT-R's engine straight into the G sedan. There would be a power reduction, or else too much product overlap between Nissan/Infiniti, which shouldn't happen.

Second of all, the M3's engine is a high-revving, efficient masterpiece. It would be hard to top it with a six-cylinder.

how do you know the tuning potential of the "new" M3 not to mention you people forget the 335i has 2 turbos and only 45 more horsepower more than the 330i and getting below 5 second 0-60 times. If BMW decided to make their turbo technology into perfomance car realm that would be an awesome engine. BMW could have had one turbocharger to get that power gain, or even no turbos at all. We all know why they decided to do 2 turbos...but my point is there is no reason the 3.0tt could get more horses than the M3 now that engine in the M3 im sure would be amazing with a 4.8 second time coming from the 335i with 120 less horses than the M3 with a 450hp 3.0tt im sure it would outrun the M3 easily, it makes you wonder is that engine to good...but ill save that for another argument

OMG people if you read what I originally posted correctly you would have understood that I meant for Infiniti to drop a Better engine then their current 3.7 liter V6 to keep up with the newer BMW Twin Turbo engines. I know for a fact from the older skyline GT-R engines that Nissan/Infiniti could make a Better engine like the new BMW Twin Turbo inline 6's.

Obviously with the new hard top folding convertible top, the weight of the G37 Convert will weigh some where around 3800-3900 pounds. Since the Current G37 is no faster then the G35 sedan It would be wise for Infiniti to go with a smaller displacement engine but adding more power through force induction. This is have a better effect for front to rear weight distribution with less weight, faster performance, and better fuel economy.

Took them long enough, the Z was a soft top years ago. Hopefully they make it a hard top. Now it's time for Lexus to update is SC430 and make an SC460.

Lexus needs to get with it forreal or they will become another acura. It takes them forever for a redesign. I under keeping it longer to help resale if the car is selling well, but the SC sales are horrid! The LX stayed out forever and this new redesign looks just as bad. So we have that to look forward to for the next 15 yrs before they decide the change the styling again.

I'm just really looking forward to better emission and fuel mileage. That's the only thing that kept me out of the G35 in the first place granted they stepped up with the interior in the G37.

well Acura has already said they hope to be like BMW, so that may soon change my only thing with the Japanese luxury brands is all except Lexus have to fight the established brands by being cheaper....and thats basically it....Realistically if the G37 and 335i were the same price would it still get great reviews of course not....and neither would alot of the other Japanese luxury cars. Its all value they cant compete on the European brands terms. Lexus at least has the balls to attempt to fight the Europeans brands toe for toe which ironically Acura was the first of the deluxe brands talk about poor product planning there is no excuse why they shouldnt be as far as Lexus. My point when Acura, and Infiniti can stop making cars that are 7-10,000 or more less than the competition with questionable interior quality and refinement for a premium car just to get in the game , and being way to close and having overlapping pricing with the cars they are based on I think alot of people will take them more serious. but until than....

i dont think infiniti sales are high enough for you to able to honestly say nissan is going to destroy bmw, that just makes no sense. as for acura, they make some nice cars but they're definitely in no position to make audi dissappear. and you comment about toyota taking care of gm/ford/chrysler combined, you mean start making less reliable vehicles and losing serious market share to a company that is proving itself the way the japanese once did when they first started, im talking about hyundai btw, then i think you got that one spot on. clearly you dont pay attention to how the market is going with us car sales going down.

Yeah, the G20, I30, J30 were a joke. Infiniti needs a large sedan and a replacement for the Nissan Armada ripoff. The roofline is ugly. Infiniti, build cars from a clean sheet of paper. This is the problem with Acura, releying too much on Honda.

This company desperately WANTS to be BMW, but they're like cubic zirconia-just a cheap alternative. They have not ONE model that poses a threat to the sales of a competing BMW: The 3 beats up on the g; the 5 beats up on the m; the X5 beats up on the fx; the X3 beats up on the ex. And here's the kicker; each nissan model is NEWER than the BMW model, yet they STILL can't generate enough interest to top them. Clearly they have no shot at "destroying" BMW anytime soon.

o0o!. It's about time the G37 comes in a convertible. Hardtop will be more popular but performance wise it'll have to be a soft-top to even be close to the coupe's figures.

Good idea! and can't wait to see it. This puts them in direct competition against the 3 series coupe. As for price it's obvious the G will be cheaper but can they still maintain the nice grooves from the coupe to a convertible model?
