Actually, one interesting vehicle of note that I left out of that list is the current gen Audi RS4 sedan.

I had an 04 CTS till 2007 and in those 3 years that i had it...i never had one problem. Cadillac is better than what they used to be, and ill go as far as saying in the reliability department, BETTER than BMW.

That's the issue that would keep me fro buying this. Do you think it will be/feel as solid as an M5 after 30k miles? History tells us it won't.

dimitri - how does the interior hold up? I was taken aback when I saw the CTS at an auto show and the driver's seat was visibly worn from everybody getting in and out of it.

I wouldnt say Cadillac is better than is used to be. More like Cadillac IS what is used to be. Cadillac tarnished its image during the 80s and 90s. Cadillac was the car to have pre-80s. Now Cadillac is finally getting its $hit together.

As for official times. They only count for production version cars. I have heard some manuf make alterations to suspension to better the time slip.

While I respect Cadillac, and don't doubt this time, we are dealing with a PRE-PRODUCTION car here. This car did not come off the showroom floor, and who knows if it's 100% stock.

If those are the rules, then the V12 X5 beats it at 7:50. Not a sedan, but it does have 4 doors.

exactly, all GM is saying is that its a prototype with production components. Nevertheless, its a prototype.

While I do respect its time, I think that they are jumping the gun a little too fast...

Why would GM say they accomplished such a feat?
Answer: Because they know they can back it up.

cadillac really deserves a congrats especially including the reason for defeatin a M3 and a M5 and its by a considerably by a long margin: 7:59.32 VS 8:15 and 8:13. if i was in the market of owning any of the current super sedans(IS-F, C63AMG, etc), it would be the CTS-V

I commend Cadillac if these times are what the production model will be able to pull. I just highly doubt that the interior quality, rigidity, and feel of this car will come anything close to that of a BMW.

You would be wrong. I was skeptical too until my buddy got one and I drove it around. Interior is equal or better than BMW/MB/Lexus and BMW edges in ride feel slightly. Go to Cadi dealership and see for yourself...

evilm: I agree with you, but wait until we see a long term test, as far as I can see, if BMW and MBW do not press the accelerator they will be behind Cadillac.

The CTS-V Nürburgring time of 7.59 was driven by a prototype with special sports tires. So let´s wait for the production car with standard equipment...

The latest post confirms only a racing seat and bar to support it. If you read comment in previous two posts you will see the final weight of the car was more than stock(due to safety equipment), it had stock tires, and is actually the auto trans rather than manual so is the heavier and possible slower car of the two trans options. So this was a STOCK version with no performance mods. Probably capable of even better time if someone good took a lighter manual without the safety equipment stock version out. Possibly even better than the not so official RS4 time many are pointing out.

Also forgot to point out that the bar to support the seat and six point harness was also mounted specifically to make sure it wouldn't add torsional rigidity and improve handling somehow as this was also a run to collect data about just how the production version of the car would handle the ring.

True. I know it is hard for some people to believe. Not to worry..CTS will only help the segment improve with competition.

It amazes me all of the denial about Caddy's comeback! Believe it or leave it, Caddy has a very legitimate American luxury sports sedan that competes very well with the best from Europe. I own an 08 CTS and after coming out of an 04 BMW 330i Sport 4 door and all of its reliability issues, I'm not looking back!
