MichaelTaylor- You might want to read those reviews again. The IS220d gets a lukewarm reception from most press in Europe. Underpowered, noisy, and less economical that the competition. While it is a stab at the market, the engine is not as refined as the rest of the car.

I don't know exactly where the IS220D has a inline 6 diesel, because the one sold in Europe has a inline 4 diesel so perhaps you want to rewrite the teory about "poser / wannabe" luxury cars with 4 cylinder engines!!
Another thing, there is the 318D, the 320D, the 325D, the 330D and the 335D so the IS220D can not match a car that does not exist, "322D".

there is NO SUCH THING as a "green" SUV. they use HUGE amounts of raw materials and get below average mileage.

Although its design looks bizarre (sort of like a next generation Aztek), extra weight, and wobbly steering, I don't think the X6 will change BMW reputation in any way. BMW badge fans will basically buy anything with a Hofmeister kink and two kidney grills, as long as that blue and white with black rim badge resides in the middle. But calling the X6 beautiful or gorgeous is just insane. Nice or daring, maybe.

Agreement as well. I just drove one 2 days ago and It was great. It was really nice in person as well. Some of the pictures don't show the vehicle well. In reality, it looks great all around. Behind the wheel, it feels like a tall GT style car. It tracks great, accelerates greats, and feels solid and well connected to the road. At 56000 it didn't really feel over priced compared to it's competition. Its just like the coupe version of any car: Better looks, more exclusivity, higher price. No damage to reputation what-so-ever.

Yea, I liked my X5 better then the current Cayenne. I drove the Cayenne and was not impressed.

BMW's Concept was brilliant! However, instead developing an entirely new platform aimed towards handling and performance, they went ahead and based it on the X5 to save costs. The end result is a vehicle that is basically no more than an X5 with a sloping roof.

Mercedes' idea was a bit smarter. Let's base the CLS off the E-Class to save costs but make them look NOTHING like the other. The result is a stunning car that ahs no association with its Fraternal twin

The only angle that looks even similar between the X6 and X5 is directly from the front. Evn then, they don't look the same when they're right next to each other. Not a single panel is the same nor are any head or tail lights the same. Not even the engines are the same!

I like the X6 in the same way that I like the R class, but both are far away of their brands in design. Also as the R the X6 will have the same destiny: Low sales, unless they produce it in small number, specialy becaso that car recall the AMC Eagle, of course with more tech but same basic design.

0-60mph for a 5000lb vehicle with a SIX cylinder turbo is amazing. Can you imagine how fast the turbo V8 will be!!

The one negative this vehicle has is that its much more expensive than an X5. The article mentioned their test car was fully loaded...they are dead wrong. The X6 35i loaded up is over 70 grand. And for that price, you can get a loaded V8 X5. It will be interesting to see if BMW will switch out the engines in the X5 to match the X6. And if they do, I have a feeling more people will end up buying the X5, even though this vehicle is MUCH more striking in terms of design.

But either way, this car definitely is a head turner. And I don't think it will hurt BMW's stellar reputation at all. Mercedes is still doing fine after their disastrous R-class.

no offense but i think after all the hype and hoopla associated with the BMW X6 on this site, that has been questioned by even the BMW enthusiasts i really think this site lacks any kind of clout to trash the X6 in any manner, it makes one question just how valid all that X6 propaganda was from this site, and why the sudden change now.......

I have said it all along, it looks like a buggy, and was a huge mistake. Im sure it drives beautifully has better dynamics then a Ferrari, but its damn ugly. The X5 is a much better looking vehicle and probably cost less as well.

Would they stop attacking this car! It's barely out yet, the customers won't be buying this car to see if it "drives heavily" or "drives as good as it looks". Customers are searching for a unique, elegant and most of all luxurious design ... they don't care if it drives heavily or weighs more than expected. I don't think Schumacher's gonna buy it to test it ...

Right now, I'll choose the current Lexus RX over any previous BMW SUV, So with this X6, BMW has just bought me otta my Lexus...

It takes a lot to buy people otta of their Lexus with them having the best retention rate in the auto industry, So BMW said lets be like them but more sporty....Sounds like a solution to me....

the X6 and RX cater to polar opposite target markets. one is for soccer moms, the other is for singles/couples in urban markets who value style and performance over practicality.

Damage their reputation? dont think so because people will just keep buying these cars because they are a bmw just like people buying a merc because its a merc not really matters if the car is rated badly by some readers on the net

The target market of this "car" will not care how heavy it is and how "un-BMW" it drives. The simply want a BMW badge attached to a good looking "car."
