Spyshots! Upcoming Audi S6-Part 1

Ok, so the American market expects massive wings, over-powering bodykits and super-obvious ad-ons for their high performance models. This is not the European way. Audi's performance models are a real 'wolf in sheeps clothing', huge power and performance wrapped up in a refined, subtle performance saloon. Audi RS models always show their intent though, with flared arches, bigger wheels and larger grilles hinting at the menace under the bonnet.

The M5 and E55 also do this well, but many people just don't understand the philosophy.

This car looks like something my grandma would drive.

Put on the silver mirrors, S-rims and it still looks like a pansy.

The M5 is truly amazing. Looks muscular and manly.

The S6 looks girly and boring.

I see hints of a BUICK all over that thing. CRAP CRAP

Audis have no resale value and break down all the time.

Why dont people admit that they buy Audis for their interiors.

Your are obviously entitled to your opinion about the S6 being boring looking. Good for you.

Nevertheless, the A6 has won more design awards than the 5 series. As I designer, I happen to agree with all the acclaim that the new Audi has garnered, and find the 5 series to be rather tacky. It will certainly not age very gracefully IMHO. The A6 will easily outlast the beemer design-wise. Even last-generation’s A6 looks fresh today. Very impressive indeed.

But I could be wrong too! that's the beauty about personal opinion. So let's just agree to disagree on the looks. It's a shame you have to be so frustrated and arrogant about it. But that's the BMW fan way I suppose.

As far as your other claims:

Wrong.

Fact: Europe's top car rating agency just put 2 Audi models in the top ten of most reliable cars. Right alongside its Japanese competitors. BMW is not on the top ten, and certainly not Mercedes.

Fact: The A4 has just received its highest recommendation for reliability by America's Consumer Reports.

Fact: Returns on the new A6's reliability scores are just coming in. And like the A4, it is also forecasted to be another reliability winner.

Wrong.

VW uses the 'Haldex' all wheel drive system. It is front drive by default, with 100% of power going to the front axel, and 0% going to the rear. When there is slip, up to 50% of power can be temporarily transferred to the rear axel.

The quattro system, invented and developed by Audi (not VW) 25 years ago, uses a much more advanced 'Torsen' system. The latest 5th generation system works as follows:

100% of the engine's power can be sent to either the front or rear axel. The default power distribution is 60% in the rear, and 40% in the front. This is hailed as the perfect marriage of sports-car performance, and world-leading drive train safety.

I have driven a 4-Motion VW and quattro Audi back-to-back. The handling was night and day, just like the rest of the car.

Alright, obviously this can go on forever: An intelligent and informed Audi post, followed buy an arrogant and ill informed BMW post, then another Audi post proving that the BMW poster is completely wrong.

Boring.

BTW, I actually have nothing against BMW, its just their fans that I find to be quite a silly bunch!

BMWS and PORSCHES are the highest ranked Germans in customer satisfaction and reliability in EUROPE and the USA.

I have seen this published in every car magazine-- Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Autoweek, Automobile, Road and Track, JD Power, you nme it.

AUDIS, BENZES and VWS are always at the bottom. REALLY, the BOTTOM. Their service and mechanical quality stinks.

QUATTRO and 4-motion are the same damn thing. You know it.
On a recent visit to an Audi dealer, I was told just that. No need to even justify that

I have owned just one Audi (2002 S8)- utter piece of crap.
And I KNOW they break down from experience.

Xenons,Foglights,radios,taillights,heated seats,nav,window electronics,brakes,rotors,transmission all failed within 10,000 miles. Constantly. Got rid of after that. lost $$$$$$$$$$

The BMWS I own and have owned have never had ANY problems like that. They are the pillar of reliability. And VALUE !!!!!

And the current Audis still are lacking in important areas.

RELIABILTY, RESALE VALUE, SUSPENSIONS, PERFORMANCE
SERVICE, ELECTRONICS to name a few.

The 2003 540i was far far superior to the A6 4.2

its mostly all ugly cars here..espcially audi wagon. None of these cars seems to match japanese technology which is what i like. Its just a big engine and overworked crap. Its basically ugly cars with unreliable low tech piece of junks. I rather drive an hybrid.

I am an E46 driver and generally like BMWs. I'm not too excited by the new A4 and A6 designs, as I really like the look of the current A4. I really like the look of the new M5, but the 525i and 530i without the nice rims and kits just look odd; you have to get to the 545i before I'd say you have a good-looking 5 (I know, many wouldn't even say the 545i is...blah blah). The whole design is meant to be provocative and forward-thinking, so it just doesn't work without the more athletic valences and larger wheels.

I am generally not a fan of the new Audi grills but the A6 is a good-looking car, and I'm sure the S6 and RS6 will be done up nicely--I like the RS4 in spite of its grill.

Audi has changed its A4 styling a couple times recently but 2008 is a long way off in the sense of car buying. Someone asked why anyone would buy an Audi now if they're going to change it in two years--maybe because two years is a long time, and if you like a car now, you shouldn't be terribly concerned if it doesn't look brand new a few years from now. There might be some small effect on resale value, but in general if it's a good car you won't regret it.

I might actually try to get an '04 or '05 S4 in a year or so just because I prefer the look to the new model.

Yep, wrong yet again. The BMW 7 series facelift happens in MY 2006. The 2005 is the old model.

THERE WAS A BIG CHANGE FROM 2005 to 2006. The BMW site is showing the 2006 model only (even though all delerships are only stocking the 2005 model).
