Chrysler kills plans for new Dodge Journey, will produce small car instead

While Hyundai cancels plans for a Kia pickup and Toyota delays launch of its U.S. Crossover plant, Chrysler has killed plans to produce a next-generation version of Dodge Journey SUV in 2009. Instead, Chrysler will use the money to design a new compact car that will be built by Nissan.

According to James Press, Co-President of Chrysler, the move represents a push to produce more fuel-efficient cars and eliminate overlapping between brands.

WOW Chrysler way to have a plan. The Dodge Journey is a huge joke anyways. It’s basically a small mini van and as boring as one. They need to quit letting raccoons make the decisions for them.

...but haven't you seen the commercials where people are having so much fun with the Journey?

Can't tell what they put in the integrated cooler during the commercial, but if it was beer, that would explain alot.

Ummm... Try reading the article BEFORE posting the headline.

Here's what it says: "The company won't build a Chrysler brand version of the Dodge Journey SUV."

In other words, the Journey is not dead, but a Chrysler-badged variant is. As far as a next-generation Journey (which I assume would be due around 2013), that's not even mentioned in the article.

I think the article is poorly written and misleading.

I read into it that the "next-generation" replacement for the Journey will not be made. Thus the current Journey which is already rolling off the line and sitting on dealer lots will not be replaced at the end of its life cycle.

I'm fairly certain the Journey will be discontinued AFTER THIS GENERATION.

If not, that's a terrible loss; it doesn't deserve to see the light of day.

I like the Journey. It seems to have all the utilities of a midsize SUV, but none of the many drawbacks of a large SUV. I don't know the fuel ratings for the Journey, but I'm sure it's better than the Durango/Aspen.

I liked the HO 3.5L V6 in the Chrys 300. It would do well in the Journey after a 2008-9 update.

Why would a mid-sized SUV ever have the drawbacks of a full-sized SUV???

This thing is crudely assembled and has two anemic engine choices. Pick your poison.

Also... According to the Dodge website, the R/T (or "sporty") version of this vehicle gets 15MPG city, 22 highway. That's just about as bad as my 350hp 4.8L eight-cylinder BMW X5.
