Ford Flex gets wide range of customizable options

When the 2009 Ford Flex arrives in dealerships next month, Ford will be pitching the crossover as a stylish vehicles rather than a family hauler. While many of you may not find the Flex very attractive, Ford will be offering plenty of upgrade options straight for the dealer to make it more appealing.

According to Carl Widman, a Flex engineer, options will include DVD headrests, mud flaps, roof crossbars, an aggressive rear spoiler, color-customizable roof and a custom graffiti-clad roof that we saw earlier at the 2008 New York Auto Show. Other tuning options will include customizable wheels, exterior graphics and interior lighting.

“They will be supplied by the Ford customer service division,” Widman told Inside Line. All will be dealer installed and dealer approved.

It bares some semblance to the Ford Fairmont station wagon from the early 80s; should have called it the Fairmont.

We had a Fairmont station wagon for the longest, growing up. That thing was the biggest piece of crap ever. I remember my father making repairs to it on a monthly basis.

maybe thats why they didnt call it the "fair mont" cuz it brings up bad memories.
besides, the name fairmont sounds waaaaaay old, outdated, and sounds like a car fit for your grandma.

Not a fan of the styling, even with all of the customization options, but I hear a lot of interest from other people that I've talked to about it, so good luck to Ford with it.
