SCREW HIGH GAS PRICES - WE ARE CAR ENTHUSIAST - LET'S DRIVE!!!

Agent 001 said to me a week or two ago that he was tired of all the bad news about gas prices and I had to agree with him.  But like it or not they are currently a fact of life and something we all deal with on a daily basis.

I am going to make the bold assumption that if you are a regular reader here at AutoSpies.com that you probably have more than just a passing interest in cars.  With that being said, I propose we get out and drive this summer.

Drive???

You heard me, drive.  Schools are starting to let out across the country, and with Memorial Day being the unofficial start of summer, vacations are being planned.

Instead of fighting lines and crowds at Disney and instead of battling cranky TSA agents at the airport, why not plan a vacation that utilizes some of the many hundreds of thousands of miles of beautiful serene roads throughout this great country.

And in the process since all of you are spread out across this great country, why not share some of the hidden treasures you know about in your neck of the woods.  And include a picture or two in the process to share with the rest of us.

For me, two of my favorites include the drive up the coast from Los Angeles to San Francisco.  This scenic route includes some breathtaking looks at nature as well as some challenging twists and curves that allow you to explore the limits of your car.





The other that immediately comes to mind is Route 18 to 330 heading up out of Highland to go up to Big Bear California.  For me this piece of road is one that needs to be enjoyed by every car enthusiast out there.  Going up and down the mountain is an event unto itself, and the scenes and views available are incredible.  Not to mention the challenging road itself which allows you to explore your car as well.



So, with Memorial Day upon us I ask you, what hidden roads built specifically for driving enthusiast do you know about that you are willing to share with the rest of us.  Who knows, that next Lexus, or BMW or Mercedes with out of state plates may just be one of us coming to enjoy this great country in your neck of the woods.

Oh Yes, Thats what I say, screw the high gas prices!! I am still preparing to order my dream car with a large V8.I will only be driving it during sunny dry weather anyway!!

There are no gas shortages. Has anyone anywhere run into a station which was out of fuel?? No - cause there is not a shortage of fuel.
Oil & Gas are the new dot.com stock for the speculators to bid up the price and make huge profits.The dot.com bubble ran it's course, the housing bubble has run it's course, and now it's energy..
Money has to be made somewhere and oil is the current bet.
90% of oil being pumped is coming out of the ground for a couple a bucks a barrel. But when speculators are bidding up the oil futures, then gas at the pump will be whatever the speculators bid it up to..

Well said.

I see this word "shortage" applied to the oil and gas situation, and I can say without reservations that anyone using the word in such a way has probably never taken an economics class. I have seen an economics professor bite someones head off for using the word in just such a manner.

Shortages only occur when the government institutes price controls. I.e. the market is not allowed to function.

Watching the gas in NJ(one of the last few havens for reasonably priced gas) slide dangerously close to $4.00, I'm afraid the times of joy riding are long over for me.

I got 28.4 mpg on a 500+ trip to Yosemite a couple weeks ago...in my Boxster S. So who says you can't enjoy sports cars if gas is $$$? Even the Corvette gets good mileage. The same qualities of light weight and aerodynamics make for efficiency.

Meanwhile, I've noticed a lot less SUV's to get stuck behind lately.

Exactly my point, with less cars on the roads, you and I can get out and really enjoy the man, machine and nature experience that the 405 Freeway just doesn't offer.

Roll down the windows (unless you are like me and dying from allergies at the moment!) and let the wind rush as you drive from curve to curve.

At $60 per tank for a typical fill up now a days it's "only" twice as much right? Unfortunately, other commodities such as food and household energy costs are also rising.

Those who could easily afford a luxury sports car are not affected, and neither are those who sacrifice everything to have a BMW in their garage.

Me, I'm waiting for the new direct injection Porsche Boxster. A true sports car that is fuel frugal,what a concept!
