Who Makes The Best Luxury/Sports Car For Summer Under $60k?

Who Makes The Best Luxury/Sports Car For Summer Under $60k?
So you're at the Memorial Day BBQ and your friend says...

I know you're BIG into cars, so I need your recommendation on what SUMMER car to buy for myself.

Doesn't have to be a convertible, I just need your expertise to help me decide how I should spend this 60K burning a hole in my pocket.

The only catch is it cannot total OVER $60k, fully equipped.

And you don't have to spend it all.

So what's your recommendation?

Just remember if they hate it, NO MORE free food and booze at the neighborhood BBQ and they'll tell all the neighbors, you don't know JACK about cars!

So choose wisely!

Actually, I agree. Not necessarily that it's the best summer car, but that you would have to spend $100K to get something truly superior. Porsche 911, Audi R8, etc.

I could definatly see the coupe. The sedan does not say "summer" to me, and the convertible hard-top has a bit on an aesthetic issue that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

The M3 coupe would be great, but to keep it under 60K it can't really have any options except the color choices.

Well, without any other information, such as age, preferences (some people like mustangs), or if he is married or has children who will need a place to sit, I would say:

S5

The S5 is shades of sporty for the summer, yet unlike most of the cars that pop to mind, has a back seat in the event that it is needed (has kids). It is well equipped for $57,715, and looks very sharp in that meteor gray color. In addition, it is probably a little more acceptable to the wife for the practicality reasons.

It is a shame the CTS Coupe isn't out yet so I could have considered it.

"luxury sports car for summer" to me is a car that's best driven, and being "luxury", means that badging is quite important.

Only the following makes sense to me, in order of preference:

1. Porsche Boxster S, base price in your choice of colors is under $60,000

2. Audi TT convertible

3. "pre-owned" M3 convertible

It's summer and these are the cars I'd drive on a warm summer evening.

The best cars for the summer special occasion are classic cars in my opinion.

The problem is that the two that immediately come to my mind and are my person likes, have a little difficulty with the $60K limit.

Again, they are just what I would like, but I am talking about an E-type roadster and an XK120. The latter if it runs and doesn't have cosmetic issues runs about 150K. The former can be found for less than 60K, but only in the bad years. The earlier years ('61-'62 and a little later I think) were created without the compromises to the front in the name of safety, are more beautiful and command higher prices.

Agent63Agent63 - 5/26/2008 9:00:59 PM

For 60K it's hard to get anything here in Vancouver, BC. Prices here are much higher than those in the States.

For example our 328i with sport package & premium package with leather seats will run me about $58-59k before taxes. We have luxury tax as well ontop of the regular taxes.

So the C63 can't even fit in this under $60K category.

Our Acura TL type S is already into the 50's after taxes so go figure how much the more expensive luxury cars will cost. Heck the TSX is already into the low 40's after tax.

Oh, I know drive a G37S MT-6 it had been my plan to move back to a 335i coupe but when things like 400.00 IPOD cables and such were added in as I loaded it up I could not justify the price, I also do not car for the plain interior.
