Yes, it does seem odd that the underneath of the rear speaker parcel shelf is left exposed. But because this vehicle is coming from a company most people wouldn't expect, Hyundai, it's a WINNER!

Since Hyundai made the decision to not use the familiar "H" logo grille, why is it visible on the steering wheel and trunk lid? They should remove them immediately to maintain that visual perception of car more expensive than it truly is.

funny thing is, a coworker showed off her new '06 sonata to me. one thing i thought was well done was the trunk. the mat was stitched all the way around.

Wow- Autospies zeroed in on the most critical comment of the car, which happened to be the finish of the trunk and made it headline news. As Motor Trend states, this does appear to be a nicely finished and generally attractive sedan priced at 28K +.

Don't blame Hyundai for shaving costs here and there, that's to be expected for a value leader in the segment. At least Genesis will cost thousands less and offer great value.

Don't forget, BMW does the same thing - go through each car looking to shave costs to maximize profits... that why you don't get a spare tire/dip stick/real leather etc., but their MSRP stays the same!

Eh, they use runflats, thats why you don't get a spare. Also there's no dipstick because you can access the oil level through the iDrive or OBC. Also they do use real leather, with sun-relective technology in the new 3-series coupe ;)

I have a 2005 E46 and I can't find one area that screams "cut corners here". Your just as bad as the people who are knocking this car!

There's no spare because BMW uses (more expensive)runflat tires. That allows them to give the consumer a larger trunk without having to make a larger, heavier car.

There's no dipstick because BMW integrated it into the onboard computer. More expensive than a regular metal dipstick? You bet. More convenient for the owner than having to find a rag and get under the hood? You bet.

And leather, well, that's just stupid. Leather is available on every BMW it isn't standard on.

We get that for whatever reason you hate BMW. That's fine, no car fits everyone. But if you're going to try to talk badly about them, you might try saying things that don't make you look like a moron.

On the other hand, above-average report card for the new Hyundai Genesis. Very good effort. I agree with 001: this beats a 300C or Avalon.

Styling on the front is extremely similar to the Mercedes S-class. The rear has a touch of M45?

In short, styling is the main fault of the car. Otherwise, quality is impressive

Point is, someone looking at a luxury(albeit entry-level)vehicle isn't looking for a manual tranny.

The entire car looks like a mess.

The dash in particular and I'm sure it handles like a barge.

I STRONGLY disagree.....if it was a BMW or Infiniti you would love it....doesnt look cheap to me...I like the car as a whole. I do however see alot of styling from other cars...but i think the grill without an emblem look very generic.

Well seeing as you've pointed out what is obviously the car's most glaring fault, and well ahead of its US launch, they now have plenty of time to fix this 'issue'. Whatever will the haters gripe about then. I'm sure you'll think of SOMEthing...

what people here dont understand is that most people cant afford a bmw,mb,audi,infiniti,or a lexus. So this is a huge bargain for many people. I think overall they did a good job for being a korean company. Everyone starts from somewhere right. I wouldnt buy one but a number of my korean friends would. National loyalty I guess. Most of you do the same.

As I said million times, workforce in Korea is as expensive as in europe, research and development is as expensive as in the rest of the world, materials are as expensive as everywhere and so is marketing. So how come Hyundais are supposed to be cheaper then competition? Logical reasons: old technology reuse, cheaper material usage, copy/paste approach.

Suggest you check out some of teh many Korean brands out there and surprise yourself with how wrong you are with your ill informed assumptions about Korean industry and global competitiveness.

The difficult job is making a cheap or value focused car, and making it good. Not to forget doing all that and still making a profit...

That is where so many people underestimate Hyundai's ability.

ugh yea...where did you get all that from my comment? Koreans make some damn good products I know this. But I was talking about a company for the last 30+ years made nothing but cheap cars for the masses. So this being there first stab at the luxo market is a very good try. Its also known that korean car companies are below japan, europe and america as far as advancement in cars. Oh by the way Ive been to korea twice and am full aware of there capabilities.

This Hyundai is a Lexus killer no doubt. Same poor quality as Lexus but you get more car for the money with Hyundai. Anyway, ultimately these are just Asian cars... known for being ugly, boring and poorly built. So why should we care on a car enthusiast site...

Face it: Hyundai is trying hard and is getting places. The Genesis is a good looking car that is raising the bar, especially for the Japanese.

Is it me, or are the headlines and articles getting worse and worse??? What's with this headline and the other argumentative headlines like "Which is better...", "Who makes the best..."...etc. It's pretty sad when most of the comments are attacking an Agent and the rest is the agent defending himself.

I predict this car will do well and it will change people's view about the brand. It just takes time and of course, nice products.

I knew that when I read this article this past weekend that 001 would be the one to post it even if someone else sent it in. He seems to have been waiting for this.

all car companies start somewhere when trying to introduce new high end vehicle. im big into german luxury vehicles. infact i pretty much dont count lexus, acura, and infiniti as luxury vehicles when compared to the germans. most people i know call me a brand whore or whatever but ultimately i understand why the japanese "luxury" cars sell and thats with good marketing. hyundai has been marketing their cars quite well lately and to dismiss this car and stating its nothing more than a nex gen azera is just silly. v8 rwd platform, aside from the new pontiac, i cant really think of any other non "luxury" brand selling anything in this class. on a side note the finish on the trunk of a lexus sucks compared to an audi so does that make lexus a bad "luxury" brand? the trunk comment was just stupid.

Your socks had better be firmly affixed or the Genesis will blow them clean off; there isn't a better rear-wheel-drive sport sedan for the money.

However, the Genesis is not a sports sedan but a near lux sedan. I am not expecting it to drive like a BMW but like a Lexus.

Edmunds review of the Genesis was good but did not sound realistic to me. Its not a sports sedan at all. Just a rear drive V8 does not a sports car make.
