Hyundai announces pricing for the Genesis sedan

Exactly, I thought it was going to be cheaper also. You can have this for the same price as a Lexus IS 250

i doubt you can get a 335 for anything lower than 45k.

This MSRP is high enough that other cars are going to be more appealing. Nothing sets this car apart. The low price was all it had setting it apart from the crowd, but it's more than the 300C, Maxima and Avalon.

Yeah, I'd take a 300C over this any day. It's got personality, and presence.

Consider this: a Pontiac G8 GT w/ Premium and Sports pkg. + sunroof has a MSRP of $32,745. Then let's throw in a dealer mark-up to move the price to $36K. OUCH!

I wonder if the asking price has more to do with the Hyundai Azera, where the Azera Limited's MSRP starts $28,550, than with the Genesis' true competition?

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that they were stopping production of the Azera due to this car. The Azera tops out at 31+ fully loaded

even the V6 version at 290 horses and 33K seems a bit much. you can get an ES350 that has almost the same power for just a tad bit more money.

I must say Hyundai is heading the right direction. I think this is by far the best attempt yet to make a luxury car.

IMO for the economy car buyers this may be all they can afford. Based on the photos it appears to be a value purchase.

I also think the engines are laid out very clean and simple.

The V8 offers great power for a car in that price range.

Since nobody has done it I will. I believe Hyundai like when Lexus first started out had many people criticizing and to this day we have flame wars on this site about how a Lexus may be overpriced and what not. Think of Hyundai like a new brand trying to gain some respect and consumers like how Lexus has.

Only major difference will probably be the marketers that Hyundai has.

I know that if this car had Lexus badging people would buy it and use the excuse "oh it's great quality that's why I bought it". What if the Genesis was on par with quality but graced the name of Hyundai. No one would give them the light of day.

I praise Hyundai for this car. It doesn't mean I have to like it or mean I will buy one.

it was a booming economy with failing German cars. I dont care how much of a german car fan you are, you have to admit that it was a bad time for them. reliability ratings were low at the time and lexus was able to push in.

Yes both Lexus and the German levels of quality has risen to set the standard for luxury cars.

All Hyundai has now is value. Before Toyotas were thought of economy-friendly vehicles that were priced well and was reliable.

Hyundai may have the chance of earning some brownie points for this and in the later years move on up like Lexus did. I agree with you it is all about the economy and finance. If the Genesis were to be the hottest car Hyundai has ever sold then it will definitely help them fund future projects which will further push them into a more mainstream stage like Honda, Toyota, & Nissan. In result giving them the chance to prove itself with a full fledged luxury brand in the future.

It's a good starting point for Hyundai regardless. With proper marketing and quality control I don't doubt this company can do wonders with their products.

300Ms are priced about $13,000 less than this Hyundai. Hopefully that's enough to keep out those weenies

Why is there a comparison with the IS250/350? These cars won't compete with one another. The IS is a lot smaller on the inside and is more of a high performance sports sedan. The Genesis is more of a family sedan with lots of room that handles pretty well.

The question is: how refined is the Genesis? It may be more than worth its price if the quality is high.

By the way, I have a IS250 and am very impressed.

I agree, you can't compare this car to an IS or 3 series when its as big as a 7 series. $33k seems fine to me considering its real competition (G8 & 300C), it's right in the ballpark of their base prices. So far its only hurdle seems to be its brand recognition which will be dogged for a while longer.

Nice. $38K for 375BHP V8 and heavy amount of luxury and features. Great value.
