Audi document with engine details leaked for future models

First, it's a V6. Second, it's a 4.2, not a 4.8!

Yes, it´s a V6. And it´s not a biturbo but a single supercharger! What a serious source of information....

The actual document only says TFSI actually. I don't think they've come up with an acronym for a supercharged engine yet. I think the dates and engines are accurate.

But yes, whoever tried to decipher the list didn't do a very good job with it.

Why would Audi offer two S5 engine choices with virtually the same hp and torque? I can only figure that the author meant to say that the 4.2-liter V8 would be replaced with the V6 in September 2010.

Yeah, I think what they are saying is: the B8 S4 will debut the new TFSI V6 and the current S5 (V8) will be updated to use the TFSI V6 from the S4.

A1 would look better if they revised that grill a bit - how big is this thing, minicooper size?

Just a little clarification here. The new V6 was not settled on until recently. Apparently there was a bi-turbo V6 being codeveloped along with the supercharged unit. The winning engine is an eaton supercharged unit available in two versions with 290hp and 350hp. The V8 will remain in the S5 until the RS version appears in about a year and a half from now in the states. The 350hp supercharged V6 is designed to go head to head with the 335/535 engined BMWs. The RS V8's will go head to head with the M versioned BMW 3 series cars. The RS6 is still not intended for US distribution but we all know what it can do against the M5 and E63 cars it's designed to compete with. Even though hp will be slightly less than the current V8, the torque rating will be higher and come in at a much lower rpm that the current V8, bumping performance and fuel economy. Aftermarket tuning will most likely be limited to underdrive pulleys and software which is what Audi wants. Getting into arguments with customers over replacemet costs of $6-8K worth of turbos is simply not worth it. Been there, done that with the old 2.7T unit. Oddly, Audi insists and making and certifying the 265hp V6 for sale in the US on both the A4 and A5 platforms. The new 2.0T is more than sufficient to power the entry level versions of these cars so I'm not sure why they even offer it. The entry level A6 with front trak CVT transmission will also use this 3.2L engine which is the only application that makes sense. All Quattro A6s will feature the new supercharged V6 290hp variant. Look for the 7 speed DSG unit to appear on the all new S4 first and then spread to the S5 when it makes the switch to the V6. If you want a V8 powered S5, now is the time to get your order in. You will have to spend big money on the RS version if you wait any longer. The sound of that V8 with an AWE exhaust system is nothing short of breathtaking.

Whatever engine Audi releases it will either be:

1) Underpowered
2) Overpriced
3) Both

In case you hadn't noticed, the whole reason this engine is being introduced is so that DOESN'T happen. Idiot.

Have you any information when the new B8 S4 will make its U.S. debut? Some of the guys on the blog say it will be very soon, but the regular A4 debuts in September. It would be unlikely that they would introduce the S4 just a few months after the A4. Unless of course they want to get as many models out there as quickly as possible.

only in the mini and the motor is still built to BMW standards its not like BMW just took a motor out of Peugeot's parts bin. BMW and Peugeot codeveloped and it actually won 2 awards in the International engine of the year awards.

The engine are great...it is the weight of the new cars I am worried about....lighten up AUDI!!!

The new A6 is said the use their ASF Aluminium technology, taht should make it considerably lighter, seeing as it now aproaches the weight of the A8.

new A4 is 10% lighter than the outgoing model.

The BMW M3 is only 70kg lighter then the RS4, despite not having AWD, only 2 doors, a smaller engine and a carbon fibre roof.

Alextx all BMW's are lighter than there Audi counterparts..and in most cases considerably. Heyhuub who cares the M3 is still lighter and the sedan version is only 30 pounds heavier than M3 coupe.
