Honda launches Freed - a Civic sized minivan
Only Honda could create something this practical and make it a reality. Honda has just launched a new minivan called the Freed in Tokyo; a kind of an aggressive looking Fit that adds third row seating fitting 8-people while still being smaller than the Civic.

The Honda Freed comes in three different versions including a five, seven and eight-seater variant. The minivan is based on a mix of the Fit and Civic architecture and is 12-inches shorter than the latter. You’re probably thinking that this minivan has no room for cargo. However, if you opt for the seven or eight passenger Freed, the third row folds up.

I do not think it's ugly at all but a third row of seats in a vehicle like this is ridiculous and robs too much cargo room.

Yes, the Mazda5

"Only Honda could create something this practical and make it a reality"

Um, no.

While the Mazda5 only seats 6, the second row gets comfy captain's chairs, and, it actually looks good, unlike this Honda which as you pointed out looks like a chunk of Smoked Gouda.

There is a market for small vans / tall cars here. The Mazda 5 has done *OK*, but most people don't even know it exists.

I really think this segment is poised for real growth, and needs a major player like Honda to bring it here and market it. Unfortunately, this looks like crap with all the odd lines all over the place. nothing that couldn't be readily fixed though.

Another of the typical ugly products we are so used to see coming from Honda. However, we know that whatever wears a Honda badge is always a hit in America. Years of Consumer Reports brainwashing transformed the American car buyer simply into a vegetable that is ready to buy at the sound of the words "It's a Honda". Enough said.

I like the general idea. I think that Honda should make one of these with an efficient hybrid like pml but the size of the Mazda 5.It should come with 4 ecectric motors, one in each wheel and a gas engine to recharge the batteries. Not for another 20 years!
