Yes, seriously, thank you Ford!! I am a huge hatchback fan (current A3 owner), and I have always loved the hatches I have seen in Europe. Few have made it here in the past, but I think that will change. With the added functionality and combined with better MPG, I think they will become increasingly common on US streets. Count me in. This Fiesta looks so cool! I would seriously trade in my A3 for it. I love the way this looks. Don't get me wrong, I like my A3, but have been itching to buy American for the past several years, just havent seen the right car. Although I am impressed with Saturn for bringing the Astra here, I would love to buy this Fiesta in 5-door. I hope someone from Ford reads this: trust me, build it and they will come.

Do you think it will be a better vehicle than your Audi? Other than buying American is there any other reason? Have you had issues with your Audi? Very interested in knowing more.

I wonder if they will still call it the Fiesta, a name change could remove stereotypes about the car.

It will be called Fiesta here in the US, and while many say why would they name it that...why wouldn't they? The last time a Fiesta was sold in the USA was in 1980. The car was well made and well lauded by the press back then and was imported from Germany.

People sometimes confuse the Fiesta name with the Ford Festiva that was sold here in the 1990's - not at all the same.

In any case, it will be good for Ford to have a hot hatch entry level car here in the States again to compete with the likes of Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa, etc...

I will have to disagree about your "the car was well made" statement. The car should have had KOHLER written on it, because it was a toilet!

They did not cancel the car because it was "bad". They replaced the Fiesta in the US market because they had just unveiled the all American made Ford Escort. For Americans the Escort was slightly larger and of course was far less costly than the German imported Fiesta.

The Ford Fiesta has soldiered on with great popularity around the world since it left the States. So if it was such a bad car or brand name, why the millions sold and huge following?

In the 1970's American market the Fiesta was comparable to the VW Rabbit, Chevrolet Chevette, and Dodge Omni. It was arguably equal to the VW Rabbit in performance and handling. The car was miles above the Chevette and Omni in quality and reliability.

BostonBio -- no, I really haven't had issues with the Audi. I realize most people would not cross-shop these two models, but I just don't feel the need to drive around in a premium hatch any longer. I like to haul my bike around, ski's in winter, and other items, and honestly, I think the Audi is maybe too nice for my needs. I also feel bad about having to park it outside, and the leather is constantly getting baked. I've often felt bad when I've made the rear doors dirty. I think a smaller, less expensive hatch is more for my liking -- something I feel I wouldnt have to baby as much. Also, better MPG would be better as well ; I have the 2.0T w/manual, and while I average a respectable 25/26 combined, I think I could do better with the Ford.

i drive a r32 and i commute to and from Manhattan everyday. i share the same sentiment as CBOTGuy. leaving my r32 on the street everyday gives me the creeps. but the drive is awesome, and it beats the sh*t out of the snow.

that being said, if the performance and dollars on this ford work out, id entertain the idea of trading in my hatch too.
