Next-generation Ford Mustang will look a bit smaller

OH great a smaller looking car. What a brilliant idea. Just like the incredible products Ford pumped out in the 70's. Get a clue. Also GM kills its next gen V8. Typical knee jerk reactions from the retards in detroit. In the meantime BMW and Mercedes and some Japanese are introducing incredible tech in their new V8's.

Oh geez, I remember when they pumped out those 70's Mustangs. That was the end of the true "Muscle Car Era".I hope they dont repeat history like that again.

It is inevitable. We are going thru exactly what happened in the early 70's. First the big explosion in the muscle car wars, then the gas prices and emission shut it down. Wait and see, it is happening again. At least this time technology is so much better that we don't have to suffer through the Pinto, Chevette, omni, and T1000 mistakes of the past. We have evolved enough to put technology to the test and make HP out of smaller more fuel and emissions friendly engines. This time we can cut back and not suffer that fate. It took 20 year for cars to be cool again.

Yeah let's hope because those were some depresing times for the industry back then.

Hey Peter Horbury here is a secret. People like big cars especially in America. Did you know people pay more $ for an S class than a C class? Did you know Chyslers best design success in the last 5 years was this big car called a 300. Wake up dood. I remember that sweet smaller looking Mustang you guys designed for the 70s. You called it a fox I think. That was brilliant. Why don't you copy that piece of waste for your next retro.

well in their defense when chevy can make 400-500+hp pushrods get highoutput V6/I6 gas mileage I think its official they know what their doing check the epa ratings on those cars not to mention the new generation V6 is a great engine. Its amazing no matter what American companies do they will never win for losing with some people, this whole Mustang thing is just stupid but GM really is carrying the flag for American companies right now....and I think any real car enthusiast or non bias consumer could recognize they are making good products and making a huge effort to fix the ones that arent

I agree. So much so I bought a C6 Vette. But when someone at Ford says their making it smaller "to be more suitable for the times", is what I find retarded.

Well thats because their 6 speed is useless. 6th gear is so tall, thats why the fuel economy is better. I'd like to see a vette redline in 6th gear, won't happen. Porsche and the rest could be efficient if they stuffed giant v8's and made a super tall 6th gear but it's track performance would suffer. the gear ratios from 1st to 6th are close on porsche Ferrari etc, while on the vette the gears are more spaced and rely the torque of the massive low tech, truck like v8 for to be able to maintain speed with such a tall gear. the vette is damn near at idle at 70mph. Not knowcking the vette, as it is an efficient way to get both performance and fuel economy.

Why the deboost? I was merely stating facts, not knocking the vette. The 6 spd gearing and large torque rich engine gets the job done efficiently. The vette upholds American tradition of large v8 engines. Just like Porsche has the tradition of flat 6 engines, ferarri and it's high revving smaller v8's and v12's. Like BMW and it's famous inline 6 engines, ETC.

ok that explanation made no sense at all not to mention the Corvette especially the Z06 is an excellent track car, if I was use I would read up on how cars work and go from there come back with a argument that makes sense, and stop trashing the Vette because of your foolish Bias

I am not thrashing the vette nor do I have a foolish bias I was merely stating how the vette has such good fuel economy along with outstanding track performance. because of all of the torque the vettes v8 produces, it doesn't need to have it's gears as closely spaced as the others to stay in their powerband. the torque makes it able to have a gearbox where the gears aren't so closely matched, allowing a much taller 5th and 6th gear, enabling better fuel economy than cars that it easily outperforms. Read and understand my posts before you accuse me of being biased and bashing the vette. I have done neither. i never said anything bad about the vette!

And I am a mechanic and have built many customs and performance cars, so I know how cars work. trust me.

And one more thing, If you read my other posts you would see that I am giving credit and I am glad American car companies are getting it together. I am not the one biased, nor am I the one who should be accused. I do not make ignorant and irrational comments here. I am a grown ass man, not some damn biased ignorant fanboy who thinks all cars are trash if they aren't my favorite brand. I talk truth, and Yes I have my opinions, but I never let them get in the way of hard core facts. Whether i like a car or not, I will give it credit where credit is due. Thank you!

Pushrod is the American tradition like the flat 6 is to porsche. It's what makes the vette and camaro, viper etc American.

Looks better IMO. I can only hope that the technology will be on par with the more futuristic design.

That concept isn't the actual car. The next Mustang will share cues but not look like that.

I know that, I'm just saying that I like the direction they are going with the design.

Yea, here's an idea... actually make it SMALLER! Whats not to like about a smaller, lighter, just as powerful affordable sports car? Seems like a winner to me. Maybe this is why Ford sucks. Instead of wasting their time and money creating illusions for us to buy, build a good car.

That is a concept done by an Italian design firm. Ford spent NO money on it.

The Mustang is Ford’s success story. This car is popular because it is roomy and luxurious for a sports car. This is why the car is so nice. It is roomier than the old Mustangs. Anyhow, how much smaller can you make this car. The back seats are tight. Forget about taking this nice car on a vacation if the trunk gets smaller. Come on Ford, don’t go in the wrong direction.

If the Grand Marquis gets decent mileage for the size, then the Mustang has got to be even better on gas with the stick shift and lighter weight. Ford should just pony up and offer a 6 or 8 speed gearbox. Maybe a 2 speed rear axle (Low for city, High for highway)

How about Diesel? If Audi can do a Diesel sportscar, why not Ford. America needs to start thinking outside the box.

They will loose buyers, if the car becomes cramped. People can already get that in a Cobalt.

I agree on the pathetic retro. Ford should have gone 1930s retro with the dash. Solid Woodgrain dash, 8” Round Dial gauges, white face with Old English numerals, like the old Jaguars. A wood shift knob as well. Black plastic just gets boring after a few drives.

The 70s lettering didn’t look good then, looks even worse now. How does Ford recruit its designers? Anyone with a Master’s degree is good enough for them?

I agree with you! Torque, Axle and gearbox ratios play a huge role. Most people are just uneducated consumers these days. No point in arguing the clear facts with them. They buy cars based upon television commercials.

I had people looking at cars I had for sale, not even look under the hood or at the tires. Totally unconcerned about the meticulous oil change records I kept. They based their purchasing decision solely on the lack of a DVD player in the back seat for their kids.

Duh, what’s an axle ratio? Duh, What’s my monthly payment? Where do I sign? So much for car buying these days.
