GM Plans To Close Four SUV and Truck Plants

GM Plans To Close Four SUV and Truck Plants
General Motors Corp. today announced plans to shutter four truck and SUV plants while adding capacity at some smaller-car factories.

A Metro Detroit assembly plant is among the winners in the automaker's restructuring plan announced today, with an additional shift announced at the automaker's Lake Orion plant.

"Our greatest concern is the unprecedented rise in oil prices," said GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner, speaking before the automaker's annual meeting in Delaware. "We believe it is, by and large, permanent.

Hmm, let's see

Let's vote against any drilling in Alaska or Offshore
Let's vote against new refineries

Why? Because we should be paying more for gas. After all, the Europeans have always paid more than us, and we need to be just like them (except for nuclear power of course).

Yes, the Dem's have done a great job so far.

You are full of Sh*T

VOTE REPUBLICAN. WE PEAKS AND VALLEYS!! WE ARE IN A VALLEY AND MOVING UP THE PEAK.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A EVEN LIFE YOU HAVE UPS AND DOWNS. THAT IS LIFE.

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH OUR ECONOMY WRIGHT NOW IS NOT BECAUSE OF THE REPUBLICANS OR THE DEMECRATES

IT IS BECAUSE OF THE STUPID BANKS. A YEAR AGO THEY WOULD HAVE GIVEN MY DOG LOAN, AND TODAY THEY MAY GIVE ANY A LOAN IF YOU HAVE A CREDIT SCORE OF 850, HAVE WORKED AT YOUR JOB FOR 10 YEARS, IF YOU EVER CHANGED FEILDS OR JOBS YOU MUST WIRGHT A 20 PAGE SA OF WHY YOU CHANGED JOBS,THEY WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU HAD FOR DINNER LAST NIGHT AND BREAFEST THIS MORNING, THEN THEY WANT TO KNOW WHY YOU ATE WHAT YOU ATE, THEN THEY WANT THE RECIPE, AND THEN THEY WANT WHERE YOU GOT THE RECIPE, PLUS THEN AFTER ALL THAT THEN THEY WANT TO RUN BACK ROUND CHECK ON YOU AND YOUR FAMILY TREE 10 GENERATIONS BACK TO SEE IF YOU OR ANY ONE IN YOUR FAMILY TREE HAS EVER HAD A BANKRUPCY OR EVEN THOUGHT OF HAVING A BANKRUPCY. AFTER THAT THEY WILL THINK ABOUT IT ASND MAY GRANT YOU THE PRIVILAGE OF THE LOAN AFTER ALL OF THOSE SIMPLE STEPS THAT.

99% OF ECONOMY'S PROBLEMS BOILS DOWN TO IT IS THE BANKS FAULT.

SO I GUESS PEOPLE ARE NOT SPENDING MONEY!!!!

THE BANKS HAVE 99% PUT OUR COUNTRY IN A VALLEY NOT THE REPUBLICANS.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm kinda glad the whole SUV trend is going the way of the dodo bird. I'm sick of people thinking they are king of the roads (and driving as such) b/c they are behind the wheel of a minivan substitute.

I already heard that the H2 is not coming back. But i think the H3 and the new H3 truck will continue to be built along with the new V6 that gets good gas milage. I think they said the V6 in the H3 will get 19 city/24 highway. Thats as good as Jeeps four banger. As far as GM's trucks, people will continue to need them but GM needs to come out with one that gets at least 20 city/25 highway in a full size V8. I think this is possible using new tech and no hybrid.

About time. At least until they find a way out for all the SUVs parked in dealerships.

Nothing makes me laugh more than tree huggers dissing Hummers and SUVs. If they had there way we would all be sitting in a circle jerk holding hands and singing Coom-By-Ya! I have always enjoyed the H1, H2 hummers and I have a feeling this is like the end of the musclecar era back in the late 60's early 70's. We are all going to be driving cars propelled by rubber bands before we know it,

Not a fan of any civilian Hummers, but I can see the H3 Alpha being a collector's item in 20+ years.

...After this stupid recession/depression sh*t passes (hope no longer than 5-10 years) Hummer wont have anything to worry about. Talks of selling off or killing the brand are completely stupid in my eyes. Hummer should NEVER go below the H3 in the market. GM's problem now is that they have too many brands and too many products that overlap. GM should, if anything, position Hummer more upscale. Hummer should have a couple of models only (H2 and H3) that compete directly with LR3 and Range Rover. This H2T and H3T stuff is retarded, leave that to GMC and Chevy! I also believe that Hummer will lose its fan base by shrinking their vehicles.
