First Toyota iQ prototypes

Hoping to share in the success of the growing minicar segment, Toyota is planning to release a production version of its iQ concept car as early as 2009 with the future model destined for both the Japanese and European markets.

These are the first spy images of a prototype of the future minicar, which will go up against rivals like the Smart ForTwo and upcoming Volkswagen up!.

and how is the NOT SO Smart, NOT a copy of the japanese micro-cars which date back to at least the 1970s?

howcum even the once proud MB feels the need to use a MITSUBISHI engine in the Smart?

This is a winner! I hope the production version is not far off the prototype in both the interior and exterior. Toyota will sell alot of these!

I wish these cars were about 3 inches lower and 3 inches wider. I love the concept, but it looks too high to take some serious lateral G's that would be a blast in something this size.

there is an inherent "rightness" of zipping around cities in scooters.

this brilliant iQ car is the equivalent of a FOUR-WHEELED scooter, with full weather protection. i would not be surprised if it becomes as big a hit as the Prius!
