The G37 and the Z may share a lot of parts, but there is one feature that tells them apart: rear seats. The Z is a 2-seater while the G is a 2+2. Remember back in the 80's when they had the 300ZX 2+2? The G is linda that now.

How about the 370z weighs 250kg less than the G37/skyline and its a 2 seater and they have diverent wheel basses. The Z4 and 3-serie's also share a lot of parts but they still have thear own part in the market.

the Z is a well priced performance car that sells, im not saying nissan is the prototype car manufacture, just that Z is a car they got right.

"370Z an M3 competitor on the cheap"? If the G37 is a 335i competitor, please explain to me how the less expensive, less prestigious version of the G37 is a competitor to a vehicle ABOVE the 335i? Is the 370Z going to be considered a 911 competitor too? Because the M3 is.

For the money I'm sure the Z is a fine car. But let's be fair. The 370Z is absolutely, unequivocably, 100% NOT an M3 competitor. Not "on the cheap", not "on the sly", not "on the lam", not "on" anything. Except maybe acid. As in "if you think the Z and an M3 are even remotely in the same league, you need to stop dropping so much acid".

I think you're on the right track, but at the same time M3s are 2door 4 seaters. The author is probably using price as to determine what would be a good comparison. IMO, What would be a direct comparison? Z4 coupe? TT? S2K? 2door 2 seater.

On another note, I really hope they work on build quality w/ the next gen Z.

The main thing Z cannot compete w/ M3 is number of seats and the quality of interior plastics, if that's what you care about.

What IS3andME refers to is the performance. They are already head to head at Nurburgring for last generation, as you can see from the test by German magazine Sport Auto(350Z-8:26/M3-8:22/335-8:26). It'll be interesting to see the effect of +horsepower w/ -weight this time.

350Z grand touring and G37 sport have the same MSRP. you could have a stripped out 350Z for a few thousand less, but then you end up with....not much.

btw, the GTR has a 6 speed dual clutch, either theres a typo or this 7 speed dual clutch is not, in fact, from the GTR.

So there will be 3 options: auto, manual, and dual-clutch, or no auto will be provided?

A hard-top convertible would be nice.

gsh23 - I was thinking the same thing. It seems like it would use the new Infiniti 7 speed auto or the 6-speed dual clutch manual from the GTR.
