2009 Ford Flex - First Drive Review

2009 Ford Flex - First Drive Review
A cooling fan on hot day. Orange Popsicles. Ice-cold sangria. The 2009 Ford Flex. What do these things have in common? Each is undeniably refreshing.

Yes, after a seemingly interminable series of painfully bland products, Ford has finally built something interesting. And after a brief drive of the Flex—in, of all places, New York City and its swanky ’burbs—we’re feeling cautiously optimistic about the funky four-wheeled box. And, for that matter, about Ford.

We’re not necessarily ready to say we love the thing, but we do like it. We are impressed with many aspects of it, and fortunately, we think they are aspects that count—i.e., features that help it carry a bunch of people and things in comfort and with reasonable economy. Which, after all, is precisely the point of vehicles like this.

I like the two tone. Not for all cars, but it works here. Very reminiscent of an old Willies Wagon or old '36 Ford Wagon. I like the funky car a lot.

Just paint it black and Ford can name "Hearse".

I think it looks good overall, but it's hard to concentrate on the Flex when it's surrounded by all of that Italian power.

The Flex has a good thing going for it. It doesn't exactly sip fuel, but it's a major improvement over the Expedition. It's a funky and fun looking car that can take 6/7 in comfort and at a good price it will probably get alot of people out of their SUV's.

I saw like 20 of these things parked side by side at fords parking lot, (check out my space) and it is a big car in real life, the interior quality looked pretty good too. My only problem with the car is the three bar grill thing on the back.

I think that it's cool, something different, hopefully it drives well.

I think its new and different. I have no reason to buy one but it looks like a nice large comfortable car. Cooler than a minivan and not posery like an SUV. Good mix.
Good job Ford.

Almost the cargo of an Expedition with better economy and comfort. Since they are losing their SUV and truck biz big time recently, this should sell well on the basis it is competing with the Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia and soon to come Chevy Traverse. BTW the Traverse looks nicer imo.

But At least they are looking to more crossovers than sticking with the bland. The Fusion needs some major updating a la Mondeo from Europe. The Focus needs to be imported from the UK, and the Edge has a little going for it, but needs better brakes and mpg's.
