Infiniti announces AWD G-37 Coupe for '09 (in a whisper)...

As I predicted a while back, Infiniti-Nashville USA has quietly announced to it's dealer group the availability of 2009 model G-37 Coupes in AWD version as early as December 2008.

For all intent and purposes, the G-37 will remain the same as far as standard equipment and option packages goes, except for the Infiniti exclusive "Scratch-Shield" paint process standard, along with a new 7 speed transmission and dial type heater switches.

Even though Infiniti worried that this would 'steal' sales away from it's stalwart AWD sedan,...less conventional heads prevailed, and now the luxury brand of Nissan will become the under-powered man's GTR !

Expect the Coupe to go topless via a retractable hardtop in March of 2009.

Keep posted for new models coming in '09,...and don't give up on the 4-dr Q replacement with AWD and twin turbo testicles !

Bonzai !!!

Excellent product, yes but I'm leery of Infiniti's ability to select honest dealers. When my wife and I offered to buy a 2009 EX35, the dealer wanted to rip us off with a fictitious inventory charge (he called it a lot pack) at $700 in addition to the generous cost plus deal I offered. We walked away and ended up buying a loaded Passat 2.0T which has more front seat room, more comfortable seats, and delivers much better fuel economy. It's time for Infinity to start selling cars at discounted prices directly to the consumer over the Internet in an atmosphere of full disclosure.

Of course there is more attention to detail with the VW. It's German!!! You are certainly not going to regret choosing a VW over the Infiniti.
VW > Infiniti any day.

Hahaha..... Go home good boys.

You guy really changed my perception of VW drivers.

"We walked away and ended up buying a loaded Passat 2.0T which has more front seat room, more comfortable seats, and delivers much better fuel economy"

Hahaha..... If that's what you want you should've got a HONDA ACCORD instead. It's better than Passat in every way.

OMG. Hahaha.....

(Star) I'm not even gonna waste time arguing with a stubborn boy such as yourself, but to say VW is superior to Infiniti is a joke. My family happens to own both a VW and an Infiniti, and I'll take an Infiniti any day. The VW is in the shop at least once a month and the dealership jacks up the prices for stupid cheap parts. But I love your convincing arguments...

AWD would be an awesome addition for the G37 coupe. Now if they could also give it a more powerfull V6. maybe something around a 3.2 liter V6 with twin turbo's making 350 hrp and 350 Torque :)

Knowing nissan even if it had 350 hp it would feel and perform like 300.

Why? 330hp is more than enough.

I agree. They do need an engine that actually feels like it has over 250HP. The 330 HP rated engine in the G37 is a joke.

Looks like you fellas have never driven "any" Nissan.

Nissan engines have never been accused of having not enough "pull". Even a Sentra has a lot of giddy up.

The G's just need 300 pounds of torque to match BMW.

dont forget: the g37's engine is one of Ward's 10 Best Engines. it is definitely NOT a piece of crap!!

I have been thinking of replacing my "summer car", an '06 S2000 and my trusty old ' 02 4Runner. My wife drives an '07 G35X that we just love and I was thinking the other day......."if Infiniti would make the G37 with AWD and a retractable hard top, that would be the perfect set up for me"........Could this be divine intervention?

Aside from Audi, only the upper eschelon of European Sports cars(Porsche and above), offer true sports oriented AWD Coupe Convertibles.

Hoping Inifiniti releases an AWD G37 convertible is wishful thinking.

That would be atleast an extra 300 lbs of weight. The car would be an absolute dog to 60mph.

Actually, no, there is not a single AWD CC on the market. Audi, Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini all have soft top AWD convertibles available, though.

The problem is not torque, 270 ft-lb is plenty. The problem is weight, and it is not just the G. Cars in general keep getting bigger and heavier with bigger, more powerful engines to compensate. BMW, Audi, Infiniti...all of them have coupes that are over 3,500 lbs. Keep the weight at 3,000 or less and fuel economy and performance will both increase...

The G37 weighs more than it should, that's why it's always a few ticks off the 335i in comparison tests.

They still haven't mated the AWD with manual! Had 07 G35X, nice car and would have liked to keep it but missed the manual too much. Went with Audi S5. Problem solved but much more money than G35X/G37X. I think Infiniti have excellent cars and hard to beat for the price.

The G37 is a POS car. What makes it good in your opinion, HP ratings? They simply don't mean anything. A Mustang GT has 300 HP and it sells for 21K. Good deal?? Far from that. Just another POS car with plenty of horsepower but low quality engineering like the G37. I take any day a much slower BMW like 320i over ANY Infiniti or Ford product. Bad engineering doesn't interest me.

and AWD is for ppl that don' kno how to ctrl. a real car - w/ exception of Lambo & 911. G37 AWD is stupid - now all they'll have in the NE is the X models.
