So When Times Are Tough Why Do People Flock To Honda?
Suddenly Honda is a success — again. The 2008 Honda Civic became America's current best-selling vehicle in May, as some 53,299 examples hit the road in a single month. This is a new sales record for the Civic, almost 14,000 more cars per month than the previous record for the model that had been set just the year before.

When times are tough and gasoline prices rise, people come home to Honda. There's something unique about this company that seems to speak to Americans. As Toyota rose to its preeminent position in the last few years, there were those who despaired of Honda's future, as it seems so one-dimensional compared to diversified mega-corporations like Toyota. After all, Honda is just a simple little car company.

Yet now this simple little car company is promising the introduction of a new 50-mpg hybrid vehicle in 2009, one of four compact Honda hybrids that are expected to represent 500,000 sales a year by 2015. At the same time, it's developing a new front-engine NSX powered by a 550-horsepower V10 and featuring all-wheel drive. And Honda is equally capable of unexpected innovation, as with its unibody Ridgeline pickup truck, which more manufacturers are adopting as the template for fuel-efficient trucks in the future.

That's because Toyota actually sells the biggest amount of cars while Honda is the choice of the sheep who thinks choosing a Honda over a Toyota makes them enthusiasts. Those are the "people" that talk about Honda. Is really that simple.

Edmunds is probably the most loyal brainwashing machinery that works for Honda. No surprise to see that they continue their work with articles like this that make enthusiasts puke, literally.

has it ever occurred to you that millions of hondas and toyotas are sold to REPEAT BUYERS? they don't NEED no opinions from magazines they prob'ly don't read anyway. they KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE they're getting the best vehicles on the planet.

i believe both brands have among the highest rates of repeat buyers, as much OR MORE than the bubbas who ONLY USTA buy whatever pappy drove. (and many of whom, contrary to prior OPINIONS, were trading their domestics on new tundras! until the pickup market softened.)

and i'd bet anytime you come across a honda or toyota household, you'll find AT LEAST TWO in the garage or driveway. this applies to both my neighbor and myself, and we are just ONE PERSON households!

another TWO toyota household i know as friends, is a two person household. yet another only owns one, but had THREE separate toyotas in the past 3 years. (along wtih a mazda truck). several more two toyota owners, are three-person households, BUT have only two drivers!

i'm sure hundreds of others across the country have similar stories about themselves, friends, and acquaintances.

Really, lenkun, usually it's SMALL men, with BIG insecurities that drive big trucks. Granted, a small percentage actually drive them for work reasons. But when you see a nice clean truck driving in the city, you can make your own conclusions.

Because people settle. Not to put another car on here but everyone I know only bought a Prius becuase they had to. None of them actually like the car. This is the same for most people that buy an econo car...they have to.

Honda's Hybrid in my opinion is much better than the Prius and averages less than the Prius. My buddy just got the Honda hybrid and likes it. Of course he rather have a 335i.

Also most people tend to buy Honda's as their secondary car or commuter and a lot of people commute. Build quality is better than Toyota and GM. But they are catching up. So good for Honda...

I don't know about the planet you're from but the planet I'm from.. People have choices and I'm sure they're smart enough NOT to blow $22K+ on a vehicle that they don't even like. What part of the Universe are you from Prochinator? Did you even consider reading your post and asking yourself if it even made sense before you posted it? Hybrids aren't the only favorable choice when it comes to fuel economy especially with these gas prices. There are a lot of alternatives such as VW diesels as well as a conventional 4 Cyl gasoline cars.

I'm sorry, but if I'm forced in to spending that much money on something "I don't even like".. go ahead and shoot me..

many people don't want it, they need it. when something like certain hondas get good mpg, people are going to need it to save cost. fits at the dealership where my dad services his car are selling like hotcakes because it comes with both great fuel efficiency and a good amount of space. test driving one is near impossible, and when one comes, its going to be bought off the truck than the lot. I can't blame honda for what they're doing but credit should be given where its due. cheap gas prices could be gone forever just like cheap airline tickets nationwide.

honda is kinda stuck between classes, its not luxury (not even near luxury), yet its quite more expensive than toyota...spare parts prices are off the roof (atleast in the ME) and not all honda's are available here. for example we dont have the pilot, but the accord, odyssey and civic are evrywhere. when driving a civic or an accord you know ur driving a better quality car than a camry or a corolla...

ummm. NOT true, according to stats compiled by CR over many decades, with a database of millions of cars.

hondas ARE good. no one doubts that. but style and sportiness aside, toyotas are superior over the long term.

vehicles from most mfgrs. get 100 problems per 100 cars after 5 years of age. fords take 7 years.

hondas take a bit over 10 years to have that problem rate. toyotas, over 17 years.

hondas may cost more in the ME possibly because there are less dealers, so distributors and dealers can get away charging more.

but price alone DOES NOT necessarily reflect quality. (which is the primary reason toyota is passing general motors by, in global sales. NO OTHER BRAND gives such high quality and durability for the money.)
