Porsche Panamera may come in diesel and a targa-top

It’s already confirmed that the Porsche Panamera will be available as a hybrid, but according to an AutoWeek source that attended a focus group in California this week, the German automaker could be consider further variants of its first sedan.

First is a diesel version of the Panamera which will mostly likely borrow the same 3.0L V6 TDI diesel engine from the recently announced for the Porsche Cayenne Diesel. More efficient power-trains and outstanding performance will be essential in moving (even a minimum of) these uber-sedans, as I truly feel that Porsche has completely botched the styling here.

I would rather a hybrid Porsche, at least the engine would sound good. I'm a diesel fan but they still don't sound anything like performance engines.

No, they're race cars. And diesel still doesn't sound good, no matter how you dress it up. Even the V8 diesels sound diesely, no V8 rumble and burble.

I feel a Porsche engine needs to be special, and as good as that 3.0 tdi is, it isn't. It's used in everything from A4 to Q7 to Touareg and Phaeton. A Porsche 3.6 flat 6 with some kind of hybrid system would be better, I feel.
