Who makes the best car interior?

A total of 81 automotive journalists from around the country picked the new Audi A4 and A6 as having the best interiors for popularly priced and premium cars, respectively, while the Honda Odyssey minivan and Ford's Land Rover LR3 SUV were rated best in popularly priced and premium truck categories.

Meanwhile, more than 900 automotive engineers, designers and executives involved with the development of interiors - but who don't work directly for any of the auto makers – voted for a completely different set of winners. They picked the Ford Mustang, Cadillac STS, Hummer H3 and the new Mercedes M-Class SUV for each of the four categories.

The worst new-car interiors more like. they are tacky and use cheap materials.

Very strange choices. Must have been an all American panel.

It bears mentioning that BMW's iDrive has been ripped off by other companies including Audi. Which is funny since everyone bitches and moans about iDrive, but I guess the basic idea behind it is a decent one (insert comment here about Audi making a better version, blah blah).

I like audi interiors a lot, and the TT interior/exterior is one of the all-time great designs. I also like the new SLK and 911 interiors as well. Amazing how shoddy the old 911 interior was.

My first car was a Saab but it amazes me how bland and crappy their interiors are because I want to like Saabs. Totally lifeless...my least favorite interior of all the near-luxury and luxury brands.

I don't know the answer to this but I'm curious--does anyone know the first car to have stereo controls on the steering wheel?

Audi has some of the best designs. The improvements I would suggest for their S4 is to replace the cheap looking charcoal gray plastic buttons and center console. Good design. Suboptimal implementation, but probably near the top of the pile.

Mercedes interiors definitely *look* nice.

To me the European are able to designs some of the most beautiful vehicles no contest. But that only goes for the exterior. But when it comes to interior's I'm partial to Honda, well Acura to be more specific. I love the interior's or the RL and TL. The outside of those cars are okay, but I think the interiors are gorgeous! The european interiors are rather bland, boring, and seem to be lacking something. Although I kinda do like the interior of the new Mercedes M class
