The New BMW 7 series DOES NOT copy the Lexus LS!

The New BMW 7 series DOES NOT copy the Lexus LS!
Lately, everyone is talking about how the new BMW 7 series shares design cues with the Lexus LS. I just wanted to provide pictures for those of you who cannot be bothered to find and compare pictures, along with showing you the REAL inspiration (evolution) of the new 7 series. Check the pictures.

As you can see from the pictures, the LS actually shares design cues from the current BMW 5 series' side view. The new 7 series is a pretictable evolution of the current BMW designs. The rear lights are very similar to the BMW X6 (L shaped), believe it or not, mixed with the current 5 series. A similar design was shown on the BMW CS concept.

So after comparing the pictures of the 7 series' rear lights, and the LS' rear lights, do they have a similar shape? Not really. The only similarity is the size of the tail lights.

What about the integrated exhaust? Well, you can give Lexus credit for starting this trend, but the BMW has it's very own design of the integrated exhausts along with a more stylish rear bumper.

And just for a joke, check out the pictures of the Honda Oddessy's rear lights. This is a 2004 model if I can remember correctly. Now take a look at the Lexus LS...

The purpose of this topic is NOT to start a childish flame war. It's just clarification.

And your point is? The fact of the matter is that the rear of the new 7 series, still, closely resembles the rear of the LS. Your comparison with the 5 series proves just that and another thing, if you take away the sharklike antenna from the LS it looks nothing like the 5 series and the lines of the panels don't even come close. For a fair comparison, you should've also posted pictures of the side profile for the 7 series, which in my opinion, does look a little like the LS. Don't want to start a flame war, but I'm just pointing out that your logic is flawed.

WHAT?!? How can you look at those pictures and just lie like that?

The LS profile is nearly identical to the 5 series, just like the LS430 was identical to the old (1992-2000)S-class. Just like the LS400 was a rip-off of the S-Class before it.

The LS has NEVER been an original design. Lexus purposely apes the most popular luxury sedan's looks every time.

The similarity to MB and BMW is Lexus entire marketing scheme: you get the look and luxury of a german car in a package that is cheaper, easier to use, and more reliable.

You guys should just go away from autospies. You clearly know nothing about cars.

Your the onle one that is lying.
What's deceiving here is that the 5series and LS are identical colors, whereas the 7series is a completely different color. Your eyes are playing games with you and are being pushed to think one thing mainly because the author (mister deceiver) chose to use the same color for two cars to try to prove his point a different color for the other.
Next time before you bullshit everyone m53r try using a different color for each car or the same for all of them.

Also, some photos of the 750i/Li instead of the 730d, as the 750i/Li have integrated exhausts similar to the Lexus in question? I'll say it again...Definitely not seeing the LS in this design. You people are stretching the bounds of credulity. The 7er has an overall appearance of a masculine aggressive presence with the back end clearly an evolution of previous designs. The aggressive cut line that extends the entire length of the car gives it and impressive stretched out presence that the slab sided LS can't even get out the way fast enough-boring and predictable.

You can nit pick and stomp your little feet all you want,(this tail light, that exhaust pipe,on and on) but no one will ever confuse the 7er for a Toyota Camry/Avalon or an ES like you do with the LS which is a nice evolution of a Toyota.

Wait until you see it in person. Day and night. But don't believe me, look at the demographics that end up buying each car.(septuagenarians buy the LS , people in their 40's-50's buy the 7er)

Nice post M35R, thanks.

But you couldn't stop yourself, could you? You just had to write more troll crap.

Anyway, I could care less who copied who. The Lexus LS is a good looking car, and MT excluded, somebody is going to love driving this over the BMW and vice versa.
The new BMW 7-series is a good looking car as well. I just don't think it has enough of a "BMW look" to it. IMO, it strays too far from the CS concept. And no matter how many photos appear on the web with improved angles of the vehicle, the car that comes to mind first is the Hyundai Genesis, then the Lexus LS. I just can't explain that any better.

Hey, I remember when the photos leaked of the then new 6-series coupe. I hated it. I see them a lot these days. Still hate the look. It's like a fat bottomed girl (and that goes to the Lexus SC430 as well).

But guess what? A lot of other people like them both and they both sell well. The new 7-series will do the same.

are you kidding?

the new 7 is a clear evolution of the last generation...which debuted in 2001--years before the LS came out in 2006.

and they really don't look AT ALL alike anyway.

these guys are idiots. i guess you can't make them see. half of these chumps making comments have probably never owned a BMW or a Lexus. They probably drive used Corollas.

They feel an emotional connection to Lexus because every Lexus has the same gated shifter, radio, turn signal stalks, window switches, and cruise control switches as their mom's Avalon.

well Im not sure about the rest of the car but bmw sure did copy the exhaust ports of the ls. Look at the 740li it has the same style. I could be wrong however...did lexus copy bmw concerning the exhaust? And which bmw model had it first?

Well it might be Lexus who put it up in this way 1st, but if you check the BMW X5/X6, both of them have exhausts similar to those on the new 7 series.

2007 Lexus sales worldwide: 500,000 units
2007 BMW sales worldwide: 1,276,793 (Without Mini and Rolls Royce)

How about that?

When you consider that BMW has been around for about 60 years more than Lexus, the sales edge doesn't sound as impressive.

Lexus and BMW both kick ass. The manner in which they do so is what varies. It just depends on how you like your ass to be kicked.

answer:

toyota (lexus) has been around just as long as bmw. why did it take the japanese 40 years just to make their first 'luxury' car in 1990?

And this is coming for a BMW fanboi? Every automaker copy each other design and add some of their own flavors to it.

But this new BMW is really Ugly and Bland when compare to the Lexus LS, MB S-class, and Audi A8. I am just stating fact, but you German fanboi will cry foul.

I cannot belief BMW is the designer of this car, it look very ugly even compare to a Hyundai.

Bumper Exhaust design:
The truth of the matter is that neither Lexus nor BMW were the first one to come out with bumper integrated exhaust. I know my comment can infuriate some auto spies followers, but I need to mention to all of you that the first car on this segment to use this design cue on recent years was the VW Phateon. See more here http://vwvortex.com/gallery/generated//Volkswagen/Phaeton/Phaeton%20LWB/014__scaled_600.jpg

So, who copy from who?

1. What kind of fanboy title/article and defense of BMW crap is this?
2. So its okay for other brands to copy BMW but BMW can't copy from other brands?

Awful write-up, should not even have been posted.

BMW didn't copy Lexus. People are on some serious dope if they think so. That car is all Concept CS the Tails,Headlights,Grills,The way the front fenders flow into the door.C'mon let's get real.

Of course it didn't copied from the LS. The Bimmer has a 6-speed automatic whereas the LS has an 8-speed.

But I heard that the 7 series will eventually get an 8-speed (1 to 2 year after intro).

When I first saw the car pics, I thought it was the new car from Amalgamated Motors called the the LexaInfiniGenisMWS7? Then I saw that it just the new BMW 7 series and new I had nothing to get excited about. By this time next year, once they hit the southern ca market, they will be everywhere. Meanwhile, I will pick up a new Genesis from Hyundai, remove the badges, put on some nice chrome accents to spruce it up and take in all the complements, (and dates)I get for my New BMW 7 series. And save a ton of cash in the process. It was bad enough that the worst example of the Chris Bangle look sold as well as it did here(But, it was clearly a BMW, love it or hate it), now comes the new one. Not only is it generic, but the old character that BMW's once had is now completely gone. Yes, it may be a bimmer under the skin, but the skin no longer clearly states that it is a BMW. Shame.

Sad, that no matter who is copying who, the result is that certain car classes continue to become more and more homogenized, as they all try to compete more on a global level. Still, the car looks like a bigger 5 series first, then like a lexus LS second. Will it be enough to increase 7 series sales? Time will tell.

Look at style of BMW E32 7 series 1988-1994 if you want to know where L-shaped tail lights, silhouette, etc. evolved from. Even the dash has similar look. BMW genes are in new 7. Just look. You know Toyota has.

you have no clue.
and your opinion really doesn't matter, since you are not the target market for any of these cars.

you don't own--nor can you afford--any of them.

One thing is for sure, Honda isn't shy about copying a few, (ok, most) of the design of the BMW 3 and 5 series. Just look at the accords body sides and dash if you doubt it.
