2009 BMW 3 Series Sedan and Wagon High Res Photos

ooh much nicer me likes. The revised front and rear makes this 3 series look far better than the 2008.

It looks like (with the front bumper) its gone for a more out dated design. This car looks a lot more older than the current E90. The front still looks like its got some tape blacking things out on it with its deeper black lines.

The rear just looks like it was involved in a bizarre accident when the rear lights where half squashed and flattened out only to have the inner lights to be shorter than the other.

I think we can only comment on how crap a car's design is with 100% truth when we see it in person. However, I might need an air sickness bag with me

Are we getting those badass clear blinkers (LEDs) in the US? That would be sweet! No ugly amber!

The wheels on the wagon are sweet and the i-drive controller looks much better, hopefully it'll be easier to use too.

I still like the other tailights though.

The new woodgrain looks 1000 times better too.

yep the other tail lights look much better and the wheels on the wagon are taken directly from the 3 Series coupe/convertible. Hope those wheels are available on the 3 Series, because they may briefly distract attention from the car's vulgar design lines.

JULY 11TH 2008
The new 3 Series designer is busy playing on his iPhone 3G with a picture of the first E90 sedan on his desk. His 3 year old daughter runs in with a texter and begins to scribble on the rear tail lamps. The designer then sees this and jumps in the air shouting out hooray and faxes the picture through his iPhone 3G. End of story.

Looks like a picture my 4 year old niece painted in her kindergarten. Lovely.

i think rear especially with revised tailights looks better than before but not the front end as i like current car's front bumper and details more. overall nice.

A definite improvement.

Not to stir up hate, cause that's not the intention, but contrary to what some may say about BMW NEVER copying or at least having some inspiration on other brands for the development of their product (like the use of turbo, for example), the so-called IMPROVEMENT (which it really IS an improvement) on the i-Drive is clearly based on how Audi's MMI is set up, with the main functions (radio, CD, Tel, Nav) being on separate buttons, and NOT by sliding the knob around. Again, not to scream COPY-CAT, but just another argument that BMW DOES get inspirations from its competitors and no BMW fan should feel ashamed of it. It would just be nice to see a couple of real die-hard BMW fanboys get off their pedestal and be more constructive in their opinions here and admit that the auto industry is a collaboration of innovations and ideas.

I'll start off by saying I'm a huge BMW fan. I've owned four and currently own an e46 M3 vert. I don't post here much because there's too many people here that are either close-minded and can't appreciate anything but the company they 'support' or are just intentially being jackasses.

With that said, I do agree with pretty much everything your saying. Although I believe BMW is probably more innovative with their designs in general than most, every car company feeds off each other's designs and ideas. If they didn't we'd be looking at very different cars today. Maybe not all cars would have four wheels, haha.

With regards to the I-drive/MMI systems and who's getting inspiration from who, it could go both ways. You could say Audi initially got the inspiration for MMI from the first I-drive - and now BMW is getting inspiration for it's next-gen I-drive from Audi's improvements on the initial concept. Whichever way you want to look at it, if car companies didn't improve on each other's ideas we'd all be driving horrendous pieces of sh*t. So, I'm all for it. Copying an idea is one thing. There's nothing wrong with improving on an idea.

funnry thing is it doesn't matter--the new/upcoming idrive and audi's mmi are made by the same company...

I'm a huge fan of the 2008 or 2009 3 series. I think its a subtle design change at best. However, why did the design team make it seem like the production facility installed the wrong decklid. The break in the tail light line doesn't make sense.

The old Coupe rims look hot on the refreshed Sport Wagon... NICE!!! Now we just need a better set of standard rims offered for the Sport Package!!! These multi-spoke incarnations would be nice for the base 335i, but... don't seem to be an adequate evolution/replacement from the current Sport Package offering... Thoughts?

Actually, I looked closely this morning and those new 5-spoke wheels are different than the current coupe wheels. The spokes in the new wheels go in between the lugs, and the current coupe wheel spokes wrap around the lugs. No doubt that the two wheels are very similar though!

Do I like them better than my 162s? Not sure yet. I like the idea of a change, but the 162s are hard to beat.

I like what they did, especially the iDrive system and new interior trim. What excites me most though is the 335d. I just read the 71 page press release on Bimmerfile.com -- changing from L/100km to U.S. mpg, the "urban" fuel consumption rating is 26mpg, the "extra urban" is 44mpg, and the "composite" is 35mpg. I know the car isn't going to carry those ratings here, but I care less about ratings and more about real world numbers. I wonder how close the car will get to those because that's pretty phenomenal.

I believe those ratings are in British Imperial Gallons.

No, those aren't british figures, the ratings in the .PDF were in L/100km. I used a conversion site to change that into U.S. mpg. In British mpg they'd be even higher, since a British gallon is bigger. The composite economy in British mpg's is 42mpg.

This car, along with the Lexus GS (two that quickly come to mind) seem to have too much car over rear wheels that are too small. Maybe they could use rear wheels 1" larger than the fronts, a' la racing cars.

Then people will say its copying the G35!

im sure itll look great in person but im not feelin the midcycle facelift that only makes it look different and not better....looks awkward from some angles

This car is the biggest piece of shat. And my number one favourite cars are BMW! The rear tail lamps are vulgar and all squashed up!

Yes, the new iDrive should be very nice, but he front grille looks more aggressive because it is popping out before your very eyes but the shape of the air intakes and near the lower fog lights look like a W203 C-Class in a away.

I used to absolutely love BMW's - I had 3 BMWs in a row at the same time. Last year I bought a Mercedes S500 AMG because it was much more new and felt better than a 7 Series. But if BMW keeps these stupid designs up designed to attract Americans and leave the other markets behind in the dust with a ? above their heads Audi and Mercedes-Benz are going to completely wipe the floor with BMW.

Sure its got a new iDrive, but anything else? New wheels. Smashing. New safety features, improved efficient engines, HD television, no. If they call this a refresh when it is released I think some of BMW's executives need to pay a trip to the mental home.

If you can tell the difference between this and the non-refreshed version, then you are the one who should be in the mental home. Wanna see some huge change in the 3 series? 3~4 more years to go for you.

And by the way, don't worry, you don't need to worry about BMW, because BMW still is the leader when it comes to making balaced out cars and amazing engines. Mercedes is not even close, it's all about just torque.

Thank you!!! I'm so glad someone sees what I see...i tell you they must be looking at the BMW emblem. this is and always has been an ugly car inside and out. (IMO) this doesnt take anything from the performance though.(the 2 door is ok though) never been a 3 series fan.... Everyone can bash me about the oh so loved 3 series.. but its not designed for everyones taste. (no car is)

I'm not sure if you guys would agree, but 3 series coupe always has been my favorite, but now this one beats the 3 series coupe.

And would look amazing in M3.
