What VW flunked this design review?

I had an '81 diesel 2-door, and it was a great all-around vehicle. I saw the new Jetta up close yesterday, and while it might not be my cup of tea, it is certainly a competent look and very "corporate VW". To me, the Jetta has always been where you look first at VW. Start there, and if you need something specific, move up, down, or to Audi. Though a silly buzzword, that's what corporate DNA is all about. The writer was comparing Jetta to Jetta, instead of Jetta to VW/Audi.

On a different note, Fast Company has no business talking about watered-down DNA until it looks in the mirror. If ever there were a rag devoted to shallow thinking, fads, worthless drivel and immature consumption, FC is it. But good to know a magazine can stay in business with circulation less than 1000.

Comment: Too bad some of you guys were not even born when VW almost went broke in the US for many problems including lack of product and POOR RELIABILITY! Oh no, VWs quality problems were not just in the past couple of years as some of you kiddies out there might think. Go back to the 70s, 80s and 90s - you will see a slew of quality problems that went uncorrected for years. I know you won't believe me even though I owned and sold them through the 70s, 80s and 90s. Go back to Consumer Reports, JD Power and even VW's own records (if they would let you look!)
"The Wanted Driver" has his facts all wrong. Recalls alone do not equal quality. There are many quality problems that happen which do not require recalls. But "Customer Satisfaction Campaigns" also known as "Secret Recalls" tell a lot about quality. The German mentality is that they cannot do anything wrong, so they are in constant denial. Ask any honest VW dealer who has sold VWs for 20 or more years. They will give you disbelievers an earful.
And for your info - I don't drive a Ford or any other American junk. Can you say "Infiniti"? Can you say "Subaru"? They make the weinerschnitzelmobiles look sick!!
