X1.

BMW why bother? Stick with the X5 as the primary SUV and refine the X3 more! As for the X6, it's the misfit IMO.

The X6 is outrageously good-looking, and its form factor represents the FUTURE of automotive design for its segment. Why would BMW give up their lead here? Because critics like you, who don't buy their cars anyway, don't GET IT? Pffft.

If the X1 looks anything like the hot X6, gets 30+ mpg, and is priced under 30k, it will be a huge hit.

Otherwise? Otherwise it will be a colossal flop.

BMW, here's how to avoid another colossal flop like the X3:

Keep in mind SUVs smaller than an X5 absolutely MUST be designed with an emphasis on MPV-style off-road design (check out the FJ Cruiser, Jeep Wrangler and Hummer H1 for an understanding of this concept). IF YOU FAIL to give your mini-SUV an off-road appearance, it turns out looking like a chick car (hey, that's fine, ladies need cars too -- but keep in mind who influences the ladies who buy them).

one question..... WHY?

Why? Because 50% of North America who are not mobidly obese will want to drive these smaller, fuel efficient vehicles.
The rest of y'alls can continue chowing down on your Big Macs, Fries and super-duper slurpies..

LOL... love it, but i figured that. im just 6'4'' so its the height that gets me in the compacts. This is why its about time that we are getting the diesels, to have a 3er with 58-45 mpg is awesome

Is this the new ice cream truck they're talkin' about?

That's new generation X3, not X1.
X1 is much smaller & lower.

If BMW is really making the X1, they're only doing it to decrease overall development costs for a new MINI CUV. An X1 and MINI CUV will coexists similarly as the 1-series and the existing MINI Cooper has up to know.
