Demand is high for VW Jetta TDI despite diesel prices

The days of noisy smelly diesels is long gone. Hybrids have an expensive battery pack with limited energy storage and battery replacement cost is prohibitive. Diesels offer really high torque for acceleration and pulling power as well as unsurpassed cruising range. Diesel fuel price will tumble once we stop shipping our surplus diesel fuel to Europe. Microbial processes for producing cheap biodiesel from non-food plants are just around the corner. DIESEL LIVES - HYBRID DIES!

One thing is for sure is the present hybrids that are currently available to us suck! Under powered and in efficient not to mention expensive. When you see the capabilities of how a hybrid can be done you will eat your words I guarantee it! For an example google PML, there mini cooper that they converted to a hybrid produces 640 BHP and the batteries last for four hour, and once the batteries run out the car acquires 80mpg with the generator running! I doubt the governments will ever allow this, they would miss too much money in taxes.Electric motors have more torque than diesels.

Per-gallon diesel prices in Richmond, Virginia are currently about $0.65 higher (or 16.1% higher) than for regular gasoline, but only $0.41 higher (or 9.6% higher) than for premium. I frankly was afraid that the current high diesel fuel prices would scare consumers off. But the strong sales for the Jetta TDI indicate that consumers still see benefits of modern diesel technology.

This is good news for Audi, BMW, Honda & Mercedes-Benz, who are planning to introduce diesel-powered cars in 2009 and 2010.

I also notice that the price difference between gasoline and diesel fuel is slowly shrinking, from $0.50 per gallon in April to $0.41 per gallon in July. More good news.

There are reasons for this:

1) ultra low shipping volumes,
2) a very low tdi following

Initial sales should be high, I'm wondering what happens in a few months once that inital demand from the diesel cult dies.

VW Diesel sales have always been high. Typically 30% of all Jettas sold have been TDI over the last few years.

In Canada, over 50% of VW sales are TDI in models where its available.
The old style Jetta Wagon was only sold as a TDI because of low demand for gas-engines.

Did he mean just VW dealers, or car dealers in general? I havent much experience with VW pushers, but after a weekend (wasted) of shopping with a female friend at 3 different brand-pushers, I'd have to agree, they are pretty low on the scum scale.

Car dealers have a bad rep and it's worse in the mass market (chevy toyota etc) than high end (BMW Porsche) in most cases. There's a lot of people on here who own, manage, or work at car dealerships. Vent your frustration or ask questions and I'm sure we'd be happy to lend some insight. My dealership runs 97 - 100% customer satisfation month in and month out in sales and service. We have 8 model lines form Ford to Porsche and I don't tolerate dishonesty form my salesmen. There are plenty of good dealers, but the shady, stuck-in-the-80's car dealers give the rest of us a bad name.

Diesel is 5 cents/liter (20 cents/gallon) cheaper than regular at some stations around Vancouver, but still too high (we're paying $1.50 a liter for regular ... almost $6 per US Gallon!)

My wife's getting the TDI wagon with DSG, and I'm having a ball on a Yamaha Majesty getting about 75 MPG, and nasty looks from the Harley riders that I pass :)

Apparently, whatever the "lowest I could go" was lower than the competitive quotes I beat, so they were happy, even though I truthfully had a little meore room in each deal if I needed it.

We don't sell rust protection and the floormats come with the cars at no additional charge. Unless you want rubber all-weather ones. Those are about $80 for OEM.

Don't worry, the Jetta TDI will be quicker than the Prius. And the Jetta TDI is tons cleaner than your polluter of a Jeep.

The EPA figures only tell half the story. The average diesel driver gets 18% more mpgs than what the EPA label says.

A potential customer can do their own math. In my area of the US, ULSD is only 14% more than regular and only 8% more than premium.

The Jetta TDI gets 42% better EPA combined than the gas 2.5 while giving up little in performance. In the real world, you will likely see an even greater fuel economy advantage when comparing the two.

An educated buyer can buy the diesel if the numbers work out for them.

Yes. All 2009 models will come with it.
