You're dead-on. Surely for all the design/engineering effort that went into the Cayman the resources could have been applied to the 911 or to a cheaper Boxster hard top.
Thing is we [you and I] didn't spend millions on market research so just maybe Porsche knows what its doing - but I doubt it!

The Cayman is a very beautiful car, and the best Porsche design for a long time. Its wondefully balanced, has a very sleek profile, and is extremely well detailed, without being fussy.

It is certainly no Mazda, that comment is laughable. B-? Maybe you should reserve judgement until you see one on the street, and not just in a photo.

The 911 is finished. After the current turbo comes out, there will be nothing left to wring out of the platform. The cayman is significant because it easily outhandles the Carrera with less power and sells for less money. This is a wonderful concept called value. I'm a 911 fan and own a 96 twin turbo but if the current 911 is the "perfect" car that every journalist says it is, then it will eventually languish in its perfection. Porsche needs the mid-engine platform to evolve into a higher plane of performance.

Oh, and thank heavens they broke up those butt fugly gaping holes in the nose!

You need to re-think your feelings about the CaymanS.

Some of you don't like the looks of the car. Fine; we all have different taste.

But on the price issue: If last year Porsche had announced that it would build a new car line, that the new car would outperform the 911, and that it would cost $10k LESS than the 911, we'd have all been thrilled. Well, they just did that. Thank you, Porsche!

So instead of complaining that it's more expensive than the BoxsterS, think of it this way: they just undercut their own top-line product. There are still reasons to love the 911; but for those who want comparable performance for a lower price, now we have a new alternative.

I originally went to the dealer to place a "pre-order" for the vehicle, my name is/was on the top of the list to receive one of the first, but after seeing the pictures, coupled with the anticipated pricing, and I think the 911 is the route I will take.

Overall, I am not impressed, the Cayman looks almost toylike in profile, and cartoonish.
