Corvette rolls out $103,000 super car
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The first of the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 super cars — the most powerful production vehicle General Motors Corp. has ever built — came off the assembly line Monday afternoon, driven by the man who paid $1 million for it in a charity auction in January.

Also the most-expensive Chevrolet ever produced, with a list price of $103,300, the ZR1 showcases the capabilities of the world's largest automaker, but comes perhaps at the wrong time, as the nation grapples with $4-a-gallon gasoline and consumers turn their attention to fuel-efficient vehicles.

People who buy this car will have no problem with the rising gas prices.

exactly lol, like how many people do you see driving cars that over 100grand in the first place, Bentley, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Ferrari, and others havent closed up shop because of gas prices....not to mention I seriously doubt someone is going to say I really want that new ZR1 but lets go with the Prius instead gas prices are high

People buying a car like this aren't as worried about gas prices as your average person. Furthermore, with it's abundant low-end torque and six-speed transmission, the ZR1 is probably more fuel efficient than any car in its performance category.

amazin, just because the engine is pushrod does not mean it does not have technology. And while many people claim to get high horsepower out of big displacement, getting that power to the ground reliably is what separates the big boys from the pretenders.

@ amazin,

You're starting to become a bigger troll than MT.
Ever heard of the Bentley Brooklands?
6.75L twin turbo PUSHROD V8!
You can't even name a 100K German car that gets comparable performance and fuel mileage to the ZR-1.
Even though you don't do it well, I would rather you stick to commenting ONLY on German cars until you become more knowledgeable.

If pushrods are good enough for Bentley, their good enough for you. Bentley's most expensive and exclusive models come with... Pushrod V8s.

And all of those german cars you mentioned will see nothing but 4 red tail lights from the ZR1. The Vette is a track car for pure enthusiasts imo. Those more expensive german rides you mentioned will never see an oval track in their lifetimes.

The only other faster cars with similar performance for less money are:

1. Dodge Viper (As fast as the ZR1 but $35K less)
2. Nissan GT-R V-Spec (slightly faster than ZR1 but at 1/2 the price.)
3. Porsche 911 GT-2 (Faster than ZR1 for the same price)

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

1. The Viper is not faster than the ZR1, it't barely faster than the Z06, that's why they made the ZR1

2. The GT-R V-spec does not exist right now, and how can it be half the price of when a standard GT-R is already 3/4 the price?

3. You can't get a 911 turbo for this price, you'll pay nearly $200k for a GT2.

You're an idiot.

2.nissan gt-r v-spec(slower than zr1 and maybe 20 thousand less)
3. porsche 911 gt2(slower and 100 thousand more)

Get your facts right

A fanboi is somebody who has a distorted image about a certain car brand or a certain car . For example you like a pathetic piece of trash like the Corvette but hate on a fantastic car brand like VW. See what I mean?

"A fanboi is somebody who has a distorted image about a certain car brand or a certain car."
so if a person doesn't like a brand, they're considered a fanboy?

from wikipedia: "Fanboy is a term used to describe an individual who is devoted to a single subject in an emotional or fanatical manner, or to a single point of view within that subject, often to the point where it is considered an obsession."

"For example you like a pathetic piece of trash like the Corvette but hate on a fantastic car brand like VW. See what I mean?"

did you lose to a corvette today? is that what all the bashing is about? lol. I see that as entertainment. their not something I want to mess with mechanically but VWs certainly drive well, but currently look like toyotas and their owners are quite entertaining:

Just admit is guys, the GT-R is much better bang for the buck than the ZR-1. The Japenese make the most outta small displacement engines.

The ZR-1 is a nice car, however the GT-R is a great car. I saw one smoke a Ford GT on the track. It made me a believer in this car.

Gentlemen, I happen to have seen this car on driving past me on my way back from a camping trip in the Colorado Rockies, still in camo. Right away I saw it was no ordinary Vette. As she cruised by the resonance of the engine and exhaust was sublime! I'm sure it will live up to everyone's hopes. By the way this one in particular was finished in a midnight blue color, and looked just amazing.

There is nothing wrong with a pushrod engine in a performace car. The weight is lower than a dual-overhead cam engine, likewise the complexity. You can have a much larger displacement engine with the same weight as the smaller DOHC engine.
The Corvette engines are very high torque and horsepower engines at favorable engine speeds.
As a plus, the fuel economy of a properly designed OHV engine is excellent.
This comes from me, an automotive engineer who develops DOHC engines!
