Congratulations, Mercedes-Benz
Lexus didn't make it :( ...oh well, it's new to Europe anyways.
I'm just a little curious in how they score things...I mean...what do they base their scores on? luxury? innovation? prestige?

Google has been quite successful.
Microsoft has been trying its best to stray away from public bias.
BBC brought us Top Gear! x]
British Airways...Do they have connections with Virgin Airlines? ...which I think is the best airline there is.
Royal Doulton...I'm not into it, but I can see a reason why it's up there.
BMW has really changed from its original-self but still keeping up with its heritage, so I think it deserves it. (If their new iDrive works, then I can finally give them credit for that.)
Bosch is responsible for a large portion of our international economy.
Nike...I love my Air Max 360 (basketball version), and their new innovative shoes are finally staarting to look more attractive.
My Sony VAIO all-in-one PC (VGC-LS20E) with a glass frame works faster than an HP with Quad-Core, twice the RAM power, and with much more HDD. There are only a few Vista glitches.

With all that said...I'm still not quite sure about what Merc gave us. I am completely open to deboosting, but I really would like someone to tell me how Merc is any better than BMW and Lexus. (forget the heritage and value of the star insignia)

The heritage and the value of the star alone should be enough, they made the car for gods sake..The new generation of thier cars have been amazing, technologicaly and in terms of quality, especially the S class..Get in a CL63 and then tell me one BMW car thats like it..Its a different class man..

I'm not sure about quality and fit-and-finish on the S-class...my friend's is the previous generation, and everything in there is all wiggly.

You can push the rear vanity mirrors into the roof and see what's behind the suede.
The doorsills feel like they came off an RC.
The ash tray is loose and all when it slides out.

The new S-class just doesn't seem so special. Maybe it's just the world that has caught on or something.
For goodness sake...everyone is just telling me that the car is filled with luxuries and technologies, and my question is...WHAT ARE THEY?!!??!

Airbags caught on too quickly...life-saver but that's it.
ABS, when placed on other vehicles, only made "enthusiasts" mad...even when it got more sophisticated.
Radar cruise control, even though available on many other cars now, is actually worth noting about. Think about it...many luxury cars have it, but it's still pretty awesome...compare that to airbags, abs, traction control, antilock brakes, automatically stopping windows, automatically closing doors...and so on.

hmm...how about the night vision? It was first introduced on a Cadillac...then the Lexus...and so on.

I can go on forever...I know this article is old now, but can someone tell me if there's anything else special about the S-class?!?!?!?

You've got to be kidding me, right? You should ask yourself what has Lexus done that makes them so special? First off they have no heritage and history in the sense of their European competitors and their global appeal is basically zero. Mercedes is a brand that is desired and respected on all continents of the world: Lexus isn't (for the most part). Mercedes is known for their innovation in technology, safety, suspensions, engines and bringing new types vehicles to new markets (especially in the early days of the automobile where they "invented" the sports sedan, sports tourer, bus, delivery van, trucks etc.) and participation in motorsports. In fact, a lot of the heritage and brand prestige of Mercedes comes from the fact that their cars, be it a racing W196R or a 190D Diesel sedan have won and done extremely well in international and European motorsport events from the very beginnings up until the late 1960s, throughout the 1960s until the early 1980s (unofficial participation) and of course the early 1980s until today.

I rarely get heated up over these things but I hate it when Lexus clowns think that Lexus is all that and has done so much that makes them worthy of being placed above Mercedes, because they haven't. All Lexus has done is offered a better equip car for less money that is reliable. Where is their innovation? Where is their participation in motorsports? Where are their world speed records (Mercedes has a ton of them and some of them have not even been bested yet by other brands)? Why do people outside of the US think of Mercedes before Lexus (Lexus is actually not even on the list) when you ask them about luxury cars? Lexus is a good brand and they make good cars, but if we're honest their achievements are NOTHING compared to what Mercedes has done. Let's not forget that Mercedes had to struggle with financing and making money and didn't have a sugar daddy like Lexus had (Toyota). So please stop this god damn bullshit about how Lexus is above Mercedes and BMW. Both these German companies rape Lexus a million times over when it comes to achievements and brand prestige and heritage.

Oh, and one more thing. You claim the "S-Class is nothing special". Why? Because your overrated Lexus LS is? Let me tell you something. The S-Class has something called HERITAGE. Every S-Class generation has a history of being SOUGHT AFTER in all markets all over the world. There's a reason why the S-Class is considered the benchmark in this class. Who cares if the Lexus has everything in it from an ass-wiping machine to a condom dispenser? Lexus emphasizes technology, so what? The average S-Class or LS owner will never use half the gadgets in their car so why overload the car with such features?

dude man...you guys haven't answered my question.

I didn't say Lexus was above BMW and Merc in everyway. In fact, I specifically compared Merc to Lexus AND BMW.

How about this...answer this question. Isn't Mercedes known now as a luxury brand? Well, then can you guys list down the LUXURY amenities that the S-class has.
