The ugliest Pre-Bangle BMW

Before everyone started blaming Bangle for the 7, the 5 and the Z, there was one gremlin at BMW that won't soon be forgotten...

And it's name?

The BMW M Coupe

Little did we know when this ugly duckling came out, that it was the first of many eyesores that would make their way into production.

Awesome driving car, but absolutely hideous to look at.

Funny thing is, as the years go by, this vehicle looks better and better - maybe its because I'm aging and hitting a midlife crisis or maybe its because i believed all the criticism that was written about the M coupe when it was originally introduced to the US market.

Only thing I would have changed is the height of the windows in the doors. I think they come down too deeply.

Challenge at the moment is that the windows come down so low, the doors look fragile, and we see too much of the person driving - I believe one German magazine said looking at a driver of the M coupe is like watching a circus bear on a bicycle.

Perhpas because the current line is so horrible to look at, but this car isn't as ugly to me as it was when it came out. Still is no looker (looks like someone welded a cardboard box to a Z3 convertible), but at least it is a pure driving machine with added functionality of cargo space.
These received so much bad press for their looks that BMW never ended up making a whole lot, and there isn't one for the current Z available. It is rare that I see one on the street, but when I do, I tip my cap to the driver b/c they are true car guys, willing to drive that thing around just to appreciate it's pure driving thrills.
