GT-R Spec V may run the Ring under 7:25 & other specs revealed

Road & Track just spilled the beans on the new Nissan GT-R Spec V, so we can now share their data with all of you. Thanks guys. While the "regular" GT-R is busy bringing down giants and collecting hardware in the process, the new GT-R Spec V promises to improve on the formula, and probably cure cancer or bring about world peace along the way. Here are the numbers: 2 seats only, 520 hp @ 6500 rpm, 440 lb.-ft. of torque all the way from 3200–5200 rpm, 3615 lbs., 'Ring laps quicker than 7:30, $130,000 MSRP, early 2009.

Who cares about this big square box car!

Look at the beautiful new Porsche 911.

Your "new" 911 got spanked by the regular GTR at its own game. The upcoming 911s are going to need more than just a HP bump in order to keep up with the V-Spec.

I know that you comment that Porsche is more than simply going fast, blah, blah, blah... But really wasn't that what the 911 was known for Pre-GTR Era? Your "Super Car" aint that "super" anymore is it?

The GT-R that I drove last week was dyno'd in at 500hp. That's 20 more than what they claim! Hmm something very suspicious going on here. Is that what you fanboys are supporting?

"new 911" is a oxymoron, haven't seen a new 911 since it was introduced 40yrs ago :)

sorry to say it EL34 but only the classic porsche is artwork. as for the new fressh gt-r, i got the chance to drive one and it's more artwork than you think. this car is simply a porsche killer, so suck it.

who knows who test drove the cars on the track so quit worshipping the GT-R like its the most soulful car out there. it lacks 3/4's of all the aspects of what makes a super car a super car. cheap and non-exotic interior, not inspiring design perfect for the playstation fans.

a porsche is a car that'll go down in history as one of the best cars ever made especially with its ageless design. a porsche requires more skill to drive than a gt-r and a nissan salesman even said it because he owns one himself for christsake. so my argument is WHO drove the car on the track, WHO recorded it, WHO witnessed it, WHAT were the conditions, WHAT horsepower is the GT-R really packing, TOO MANY questions that we will never know.

suck this nissan fan boys, GT-R a car built on budget and funding from renault. at least the nsx and lf-a is built with their own money. what has nissan done in terms of sales against honda and toyota? their squat!.. in other words BEGGERS asking for outside help to soup up their GT-R and have them say it's factory tuned and engineered by nissan themselves.. BULL CRAP! anybody else smell that? cause i do.

The beast has just been made better. The GT-R already took down everything in its path and it looks like this version will continue that pattern. Keep up the good work Nissan. This is an awesome machine!

The motor they're using is from the first 25 "standard" GTR press vehicles.

lol u know dam well u would take a Euro super car over a low budget built GT-R despite its supposed good numbers on the ring. gt-r is just a toy whereas a porsche, ferrari, lamborghini is a piece of art. u love the nissan but u lust for the real super cars. cars with a howl that'll send chills down ur spine and a howling v10 that'll scare the living daylights out of a pedestrian. a gt-r don't stir the blood.

Godzilla takes down the competition, whoops on them, then holds them down with one foot while you watch them squirm. I don't care who you are, you gotta love it! Just think of all the others scratching their heads, trying to come up with something better.

You deboost me but that's the number I saw when it got dyno'd so the question is are all the GT-R's running with the same horsepower because apparently all their engines are hand built and are all "different".

You're reading Edmunds. I'm basing my words on actual experience. Difference is I'm not paid to do what I do. I'm just stating what I saw.

I`m not deboosted you , I informed you . What`s the real nissan gtr horsepower we will see in future when more owner`s will go dyno their cars but even then we will know only horsepower on wheels .

Can't wait to see the "market adjustment" on the Spec Vs. Will anyone have the heart to write a ~180K or - god forbid - 200K+ check to your local Nissan dealer? Anyways... awesome specs, and kudos to Nissan!

Unless you track your car, the capabilities of this car are an absolute waste in North America.
You could also have a scud missile in your garage - it would also be fast (and just as practical & pretty) - but what are you gonna do with it besides boast to your friends how fast it is.

Can't you say the same thing for all the fast cars out there though? who the hell pushes the envelop on their daily commute. 911 is limited to 155mph, any midrange car can go that fast, do you see people walking out of the dealership because of that fact?

where is the 911 limited to 155 - not in the U.S.

And yet....every review says that for 'money no object' the author would never buy the Nissan. They would buy a Euro car instead. Nice car though.

Well 'money no object" i wouldnt buy a a car either .. I would have my own private Helicopter with in flight attendant to scoot my butt from one place to another ..
And if it had to a be on the road, it would be a limo so i can sit in the back seat and play the lord.
There is always track days with the Ariel atom to have some automotive fun....

Take a 911 over GT-R any day. Its not all about the speed and 95% of you will never have either, just be fan boys. Besides all the GT-Rs I have seen have yet to hit the magical times Edmund's got. I believe the Press GT-Rs were running very High Octane to help boost the GT-Rs image. RUnnign 3.8-4 Sec 0-60 is common place. I beat a GT-R in my 911 CS (With EVO SC) recently. So what ever....

Can't believe the regular GT-R spanked the Porsche. Isn't it a crying shame.
