Next-Generation Acura NSX to cost $160,000?

I can just hear all the people saying it now..."$160k for and Acura!! crazy!"...remember, the Ford GT was similarly priced.

Yes, however the Ford GT was an established icon from days gone by (cant believe I just defended Ford)...which is how they were marketing it. The NSX is not quite old enough to fall into the 'nostalgia' category.

Hopefully this is just one of those situations where the early information is incorrect. I personally think it is incorrect, because if it were correct it would be tantamount to Honda saying its skipping directly over the Germans (including porsche)and producing a Ferrari or in its words an 'Aston Martin competitor' (Cant wait to here Jeremy Clarkson on that comment). No one would believe this anyway...no matter how they would market it.

And honestly they had better not place that rediculous "shield" on the front of the car...that thing has become ludicrously ugly IMHO.

Yea but at least Ford GT has supercar styling and power to back up that price. NSX used to have supercar looks but not enough power and now it has enough power but no supercar looks from what I can tell so far. It basically looks like an Acura 2 door Coupe that I would think twice before choosing it even over the M3.

SHOWTIME, the guys around here that love Honda could care less about styling.

Agreed, but how about bringing F1 technology to the market place. Doesn't that account for something? Doesn't Honda's long history of racing success (save for current F1 efforts) mean anything? When the original NSX was introduced the F1 technologies included were also considered with the marketing strategy.

I agree whole heatedly that F1 tech is incredibly critical for the modernization of consumer vehicles. The only other test bed platform for consumver vehciles over the years other than F1 is MB's S Class which again took many of its items from F1 as well.

Also, do not let it be said that I am discrediting the NSX in any way shape of form. That car was phenominal. It was essential in reinforcing Colin Chapman's ideology that if you use a light weight vehicle, you don't need to have a big engine to be quick around the track. All this during the time of the rebirth of the big block supercars.

While NSX's selling points were its looks and handling not to mention it would actually start in the morning...another critical aspect of it surviving so long was that you didn't have to be a multi millionare to own one. It was expensive, however not more so than a corvette, which early on it looked much better than. The every day middle class guy could possible aspire to, one day, owning one. Therefore the concept with the NSX was superexotic looks with a budget price. The same cannot be said for this new NSX replacment if Honda intends on charging $160,000 for it. You are now in the rare air of needing to be a multi millionare to purchase one. And for that price, why wouldn't I buy the Aston or Ferrari which brings name recognition and apparently better looks to the table.

Just remember...Honda is not trying to sell this car to those of us who are afficianados. Its aiming it at the GTR market (and lets be honest how many of us on Autospies could run out right now an buy a GTR)...but pricing it well into the stratosphere would be doing itself a dissservice since its competitor dosent even weigh in with 6 digits on its price tag.

Way too overpriced in my opinion. In this range, I'd stick with Porsche or save some money and get the GT-R or an M6.

Just give me an ordinary Corvette convertible.

Honda don't blindly over charge for their products, that's the domain of German marques.

funny, because the only German cars more expensive than this are a couple of Porsches and a couple of Benzes. All the rest of the German cars are less. And I'd still take any of those more expensive German cars, along with quite a few of the less expensive ones, plus several Italian cars (Ferrari, Lambo) and a British car (Aston), over what I am seeing in that photo.

With nice used F430s going for $175k, Acura sure has their work cut out for them.

I'd buy the NSX.

The difference between this and the GT-R was the NSX was always priced high so it's not going from 50K to 100K.

You can't ignore that V10 motor you just can't. It's got supercar sound and a supercar v10. I just wished it was more like the old one but updated.

lets see $160,000 for a crap ricer or you could get a Audi R-8,Porsche GT 3,used Gallardo or my personal favourite used F-430.

I'm sure that crap ricer can beat whatever you are driving right now.

or spend $75k for a gt-r and smoke all those cars...haha..
