GM Cuts Saab Warranty Coverage

This move will not save them money, it will only backfire. what an idiotic move. GM needs to find themselves a new CEO quickly

GM needs to fire 450 of its do-nothing execs (the zillions of overpaid zombies who shuffle paper, "strategize", and send emails back and forth debating the language of cover sheet of the quarterly healthcare packet).

Then GM needs to hire just FOUR Chris Bangle types and give these 4 design wizards absolute control over what gets built.


Let the heads roll. That should turn things around pretty quickly.

KZ258, you and I are on the same page. No company can afford to cut warranty today without losing sales. Warranties got better and better because car makers were building unreliable crap and had to offer the customer something to take away their fear of getting stuck with downstream repairs on a bad product after the warranty period.

My guess is that GM plans to make Saab more profitable quickly and then dump the brand, leaving someone like Tata to hold the bag. Once the Saab division is dumped, why would GM care about warranty on Saab cars. A better idea would be to make the Saab so highly reliable that it does not even need a warranty. Saab has some of the most comfortable seats in the industry.

The more appropriate question should be "what WAS Saab?".
Hasn't been same since GM purchased them because Ford wanted Volvo (another "dead" Swedish brand). Oddly, GM had just reiterated that Saab was not up for sell. Now I'm no Econ genius, but my gut says they're lying and are preparing it to be sold off within the next 3 years -- a more preferred option than killing it off like they did Oldsmobile and will probably do to GMC and Buick.

I think I just took a 9-3 linear on trade a few days ago. Sweet ride. Lame design sets off this beauty of an electrical hazard.

No one will buy one anyway. It's a matter of time before the unit gets sold. It's a Saab story.

I like Saabs but good grief they're interiors are straight out of the mid 90s. Literally. Take a look at the interior of a 1994 Saab 900 and then go look at the interior of a 2008 Saab 9-3. Sure they've updated the stereo dash and HVAC buttons...

I have a feeling this may be the end of SLOB in the USA :-(

I think everyone is missing what this article REALLY saids it saids GM is cutting the warranty on its PREMIUM cars, including Cadillac.....very bad move...now they cant they have the longest coverage in the industry...comeon GM

This is asinine for GM to do. I swear it looks like GM came out with all these new nice looking cars and trucks, making a big deal about how it is changing for the better and it did look they where changing for the better but now it looks like they are going backwards with this story and other story’s that have came out lately. What is the freakin deal? What did they fire/laid off the one guy that had all the good ideas?
