The American RS4 will be priced between 60k and 70k, right in the same range as the forcoming V8 M3. The RS4 does not have the exact same spec as the Euro model due to more strict American safety laws. For example, the Euro RS4's stunning track-grade sport seats will not make it to NA. Instead, the regular S4's Ricardo sport seats (with side impact airbags) will be used. Audi is on a roll these days. The RS4's longitudinal 4.2 V8 is not compatible with the current DSG, not to mention that it probably wouldn't withstand the torque demands anyway. However, Audi is performing final tests on their new DSG for longitudinal engines. There will be two versions; one for Audi's regular line-up, and another for its high-performance cars (which will also be shared by Audi's Lamborghini division). The 2008 B8 A4 will have the new DSG. No news on whether next year's RS4 will get a DSG, but I wouldn't bet on it. On a related note, Audi is also testing a more powerful Multitronic CVT that can be mated to quattro. Also, the aging Tiptronic transmission will finally be phased out within two years. Audi has become a technology leader when it comes to transmissions. Their new 6 speed manual, the state of the art Multitronic, and the class-leading DSG represent the most advanced transmissions in the world.
