Why the G35 is better than the 3-series

I have driven both cars and in a way, they are difficult to compare. But there are some mistakes in this comparison. What is better about more horsepower and a larger engine, when it doesn't really translate into faster acceleration? And how often do I care about corrosion? With the modern cars, you hardly get problems anyway - oh, and what about BMW's full maintenance vs. having to pay for Infinity service? Ok, so the BMW costs more, so we'll call it even. Personally, I'll take a 3 over a G35 any day, but I don't think you can really compare cars on paper like this.

The two manufacturers take different approaches to designing their cars. BMW aspires to make you feel at one with the machine; connected with the road; experience the drive. As a result, recent complaints include excessive wind and road noise. Evidently, the driver is a bit too "connected" with the driving experience.

Lexus, on the other hand, aspires to a silent cockpit, tranquility. Dial up the aroma therapy for the complete picture.

That said, BMW is not without its faults. They are losing that "Driver's Car" edge they once so securely held. Cost cutting has resulted in cheap looking interiors. Controversial style gives us cars that drive like a 10 but look like a 2. Their obsession with gadgetry has given us iDrive, turn signals that can't be manually canceled, and electrical failure rates that make Consumer Reports double-check their numbers.

Lexus has the quality, but they also lack that certain something that BMW was once famous for. And BMW isn't the BMW it once was, not even a few short years ago.

Given a choice between the two (which I have), I vote to save my shekels until the next round of cars make their debut.

PS: I have 3 BMWs, and love 'em all. All are certified 100% Bangle-free.

I give Infiniti credit for nice value on the G35, and it's nice they make a ton of stuff standard. But why is all this copy-pasted here?

Most people getting a BMW are going to get the vast majority of the "advantages" through the basic packages. They list like eight things having to do with the seats...all of which I have on my E46.

"Automatic drive indicator on dashboard"..."Rear center armrest"...I don't remember these being things I had to pay extra for...

It's just typical car company propaganda...

Saying that a larger engine/more horsepower = a better car is absurd.

The BMW is actually more powerful, and gets to 60 more quickly than the G35.

Why? Because the BMW is lighter, more rigid, and has vastly superior suspension nad body dynamics.

The BMW is also more fuel efficeient.

So yeah, you can just dump a larger, more clumsy V6 into an unremarkable drivetrain and get more raw power on paper (G35). Or you can engineer a superbly effiecient and refined smaller engine and house it in a state of-the-art chasis to get more power in the real world (3 Series).

Your choice.

I personally don't care a bit about prestige. I care about what kind of car I get for the money (that's why I don't bother with Mercedes). I would be fine bying a Kia if it's as good as a BMW, but it's not.

A BMW 3 series is worth its price.

The G35 is also worth its price. It's actually a very good deal. But that doesn't mean it's a better car than the new 3.

Bottom line: if you can afford a BMW, get one. Same goes for Audi.

If you can't afford a German luxury car, then the G35 is the next best thing.

The G35 is a damn fine road car. However....

Its CHEAP.

The whole interior is crap. Everything from the stereo, to the seats, to the door panels, to the AC vents, to the plastic aluminum, to the gauges......it goes on and on.

When you pay 34-38 grand for a car, it better be nice to ride in.

Nissan/Infiniti has got to fix their interior problems before German car buyers take them seriously.

The M35/45 still feels crappy. Not a step up in quality, but perhaps in style/design. Theyre cost cutting way too much!!!!!

The G is a fun car to drive, but not to own.

Many friends of mine sold theirs after 3 months of ownership.

Have you seen what the leather and plastic looks like after 20,000 miles? Trust me, it aint pretty.

Like a toy that gets old after playing with it too much.

The G just doesnt feel solid and well built like the BMW.

I'm sorry but if youve driven both, the G doesnt even come close.

Its a hit because of the price. Period

I think almost all of America has promised to not buy Audis.

They look great, but they drive like crap.

Not to mention the reliability.

They are poser cars. Period.
