At the same time, the German automotive press is going gaga over word that Lexus has registered the name “IS460”—suggesting the possibility of an even more powerful autobahner with a 4.6-liter V8 under the hood.

Lexus should start looking into something else besides car...I think they have morethan enough money and engineering talents to venture out to something much much biggerthan yes! even Auto business.

Just take a look at Mitsubishi heavy Industry and France's airline agreement. Recently agreed to develope world's next fastest supersonic plane! (due out in a few years) Mitsubishi has already built and tested an engine that can break sound barrier X 5! Compared with British Concord which breaks sound barrier X 2. This is where true innovation and future is beside cars, for Lexus.

Hyundai for example builds oil tankers to electric generators while Subaru builds platforms for Boeing Jet airlines....Honda already started to builds its own personal jets.

I think Lexus should do the same..They have proven their talents and should start building something much much bigger than just cars. They need to start copying other Japanese car companies and start branching out into something much much grandeur. FACT is that they have enough money for a such project: $16 billion dollars a year in profit for Toyota which is beyond enough funding resource for R&D funding...They just need to do it and think biggerthan just cars.

I think Toyota will achieve its goal as far as dominating the auto market in the world within a few years. Its inevitable outcome as, I see it..but Toyota/Lexus needs to do more.

Most of the Lexus LS and LX models in the US are stickered at over $60k - the LS outsells the BMW 7 series, Audi 8, Mercedes S Class quite handily every month in the US. Here are sales volumes January through May 2005
Lexus LS430 - 11,331
Mercedes S - 6,302
BMW 7 - 6,122
Audi 8 - 2,242

Wow, that means the Germans sell more when you combine all three - but Lexus takes about 44% of the market for large (by interior volume) luxury sedans.
