Audi's R8 Shows It's Drop Top For Real This Time

These are the first real photos of the open-air twin to the 2008 Audi R8.

The Audi R8 Spider is due next year as a 2010 model. Engines will be the same as the R8, and the Spider will also get a version of the V-10 that's also coming to the R8 coupe.

The top looks like an afterthought. Oh wait, it is an afterthought. Maybe its me but that top looks a little tacky.

Of course it's an afterthought. Aren't all convertibles? Name one high performance car that was DESIGNED as a convertible and not as a hardtop with a convertible sibling....

Even if it's an afterthought it could still look better IMO. Chevy designs the corvette convertible alongside the coupe which yields much better results (as far as the top is concerned).

I like the spyder configuration. It should look good with the top down. It looks like a setup similar to the F430.

It sure looks great without the "sideblade" which to me looks totally like an afterthought on the coupe.
